Big Al & CJ dive into two Colorado storylines headed in opposite directions — the red-hot Denver Broncos, winners of six straight, and the Colorado Buffaloes, spiraling toward the finish line. The guys break down Bo Nix’s impact, Denver’s elite defensive front, and whether Sean Payton’s team is truly one of the NFL’s top contenders. Then they turn to Boulder: what’s gone wrong for Coach Prime’s Buffs, and can 5-star QB JuJu Lewis save the program? They wrap with a preview of Broncos-Raiders and what’s at stake for Denver’s playoff push.
Big Al & CJ open with some light-hearted banter about Colorado’s sunshine and Daylight Saving Time before jumping into the Broncos’ latest statement win — a road victory over the Texans that pushes Denver to 7–2. They question how much better this offense can get, while praising a defense that’s playing “as good as any Broncos front ever.” The conversation shifts to Bo Nix’s consistency, a fiery “redraft” of the 2023 QB class, and what separates the Broncos from the true title contenders. In the back half, they turn to college football and examine the Buffs’ freefall, debating whether JuJu Lewis can revive the program and what Deion Sanders must change heading into next year. They close by previewing the upcoming Raiders game, warning Denver not to fall into a trap before a massive Thursday night showdown with the Chiefs.
00:00:00:00 - 00:00:02:26
Speaker 1
One.
00:00:02:29 - 00:00:21:02
CJ
At the Denver Broncos, making a case for being the best team in the National Football League. And what's next for a Q buffs after they lost the must win game?
00:00:21:04 - 00:00:22:03
CJ
What's up, big fella?
00:00:22:06 - 00:00:33:03
Big Al
Man, I'm just feeling so good. Just, just, relaxing and enjoying this unbelievable weather here in Denver, Colorado. It's been, it's been an unbelievable fall so far.
00:00:33:05 - 00:00:51:08
CJ
That's the beauty of Colorado. In a lot of ways. Weather is, most people don't understand how beautiful the weather is. Really year round. For the most part. You get some tricky days. But, you know, here we are. You know, November haven't seen snow. Not that I necessarily mind it. Right. But man, we're in the 70s today, man.
00:00:51:09 - 00:00:53:08
Big Al
Yeah. Tell you what, what's,
00:00:53:11 - 00:00:54:27
CJ
I'm still working on my tan.
00:00:54:29 - 00:01:02:01
Speaker 1
I wear a good job because it's fucking working.
00:01:02:03 - 00:01:02:28
CJ
Anyway.
00:01:03:00 - 00:01:05:11
Speaker 1
Hey, do you know, by the way,
00:01:06:23 - 00:01:31:16
Big Al
We've had daylight savings time, and since then, the clocks have rolled back, and, it's been a little weird. Little tough. So if you're a person out there that is having some hard times during this time of year as the, you know, we get closer to darkness around 415 or 430 later down the year. Just know it's daylight Savings time on December 21st.
00:01:31:24 - 00:01:36:09
Big Al
December 22nd, one of the two, we have a winter solstice. We start to gain three.
00:01:36:09 - 00:01:41:21
Speaker 1
Minutes of daylight every single day. So look forward to the end of this by, you know, a month and.
00:01:41:21 - 00:01:42:11
Big Al
A half or so.
00:01:42:11 - 00:01:46:23
CJ
How boring must life be? Ha! Who knows that? Who? Who knows.
00:01:46:23 - 00:01:48:19
Speaker 1
That? Well, I mean, some people like myself a.
00:01:48:19 - 00:01:55:04
Big Al
Light sensitive, you know. So I need I need sunlight and, it's just it's part of who I am, you know?
00:01:55:04 - 00:01:56:18
Speaker 1
It's it's part of who I am.
00:01:56:20 - 00:02:12:29
CJ
It's funny because I. I didn't have a major, like, snafu with daylight savings time, like, you know, being somewhere an hour early when you thought. But when I woke up, I wake up every morning. I go get my coffee at about 545, 615. You.
00:02:12:29 - 00:02:13:20
Speaker 1
Oh.
00:02:13:23 - 00:02:15:09
CJ
I'm. Oh, that's that's exactly right.
00:02:15:17 - 00:02:17:04
Speaker 1
You up at 5:00.
00:02:17:06 - 00:02:24:15
CJ
Every day and wondering why the hell I'm, I'm, I'm up and I'm still asking myself that question after years of being up at five.
00:02:24:18 - 00:02:26:00
Speaker 1
Yeah. When you're young, you know.
00:02:26:03 - 00:02:30:04
Big Al
That's like 930, ten. So you're not young.
00:02:30:07 - 00:02:31:13
CJ
I'm not young.
00:02:31:15 - 00:02:32:01
Big Al
Fully hung.
00:02:32:01 - 00:02:48:24
CJ
Over you. So, but, I went down to get my coffee and the sun was coming up. Kind of threw me off a little bit, like, what time is it? And I still didn't realize that it was daylight Savings time until it was time to get ready for church.
00:02:48:27 - 00:02:49:15
Big Al
Right?
00:02:49:15 - 00:02:52:21
CJ
And I'm like, oh, I have an extra hour, right?
00:02:52:21 - 00:02:53:07
Big Al
Right.
00:02:53:08 - 00:02:55:00
CJ
Oh, man, it was so cool.
00:02:55:03 - 00:03:11:28
Big Al
Yeah. You know, my kids didn't really realize it until, till Monday. Sunday. Just kind of came and went. They must have partied hard or something. On Saturday, and then Sunday just rolled into it. And then Monday we're like, oh, some feels off.
00:03:12:00 - 00:03:13:09
CJ
Then you like Daylight Savings time?
00:03:13:15 - 00:03:15:12
Big Al
You know, I hate it, I hate it.
00:03:15:14 - 00:03:17:26
CJ
Just you want you want the clock to just say yes.
00:03:17:26 - 00:03:35:23
Big Al
Yes. But you know, it's, it's it's a it takes an act of Congress to, to, actually change daylight saving time. And one of the, one of the, really weird deals about daylight saving time is that it is, tied to our financial structure.
00:03:36:10 - 00:03:46:03
Big Al
And so you just can't make, make a change like that without consideration for all of the, impact that it carries worldwide.
00:03:46:09 - 00:03:47:25
CJ
You know, I think there's an increase, but.
00:03:47:25 - 00:03:48:10
Big Al
I do hate.
00:03:48:10 - 00:04:01:08
CJ
It. Yeah. There's increasingly, a voice or voices out there saying, let's just get rid of it, let's keep the clock the same year round. And I don't know that I have an opinion one way or the other about it. Unlike you. You know, you.
00:04:01:09 - 00:04:01:19
Speaker 1
I lived.
00:04:01:19 - 00:04:03:00
Big Al
In Arizona for.
00:04:03:00 - 00:04:04:00
CJ
No daylight savings time.
00:04:04:01 - 00:04:27:03
Big Al
No daylight savings time. And, you know, life seemed to be okay there. And it it was it was cool. So I don't understand why more, states won't adopt it, but, federally, there there are there are rules and obligations that we have to the rest of the community. May I understand, but I wish I was in one of those states that would this just, keep it simple?
00:04:27:03 - 00:04:32:21
CJ
Right on. No, I hear you, I hear you. It's a little tricky. I don't again, I don't know that I have a much of an opinion. One.
00:04:32:26 - 00:04:33:27
Speaker 1
Right. Well, if you don't pay.
00:04:33:27 - 00:04:38:26
Big Al
Attention, you don't pay attention. But for those out there that pay attention, it's a big deal.
00:04:38:29 - 00:04:40:22
CJ
Oh, there's something you actually pay attention to.
00:04:40:24 - 00:04:41:13
Big Al
Oh, listen, I.
00:04:41:15 - 00:04:43:09
CJ
Got this listen. Soliloquy.
00:04:43:09 - 00:04:48:17
Big Al
I live in Colorado because we're guaranteed over 300 days of sunshine. Okay? That is quite.
00:04:48:18 - 00:04:52:00
CJ
Standard. That's the one thing Coach Mandolin said that was actually correct, right?
00:04:52:00 - 00:04:53:12
Speaker 1
I mean, you are Gary. I mean, the.
00:04:53:12 - 00:04:59:27
Big Al
Sun's going to shine or it's going to be a bad, bad week for most people here. And so it's been an unbelievable.
00:04:59:27 - 00:05:02:09
Speaker 1
Well plus 16 degrees.
00:05:02:12 - 00:05:06:20
Big Al
Warmer than we normally are this time of year.
00:05:06:22 - 00:05:12:00
CJ
Wow. Like I mean you actually study I mean you you this is real for you know.
00:05:12:00 - 00:05:12:18
Speaker 1
Yeah, man.
00:05:12:18 - 00:05:13:24
CJ
Plus 16 degrees.
00:05:13:25 - 00:05:14:03
Speaker 1
Plus.
00:05:14:03 - 00:05:26:24
Big Al
16 over the average. You know, I for the longest, I want to study, the sun. So, you know, because a lot, a lot of things are based around the sun.
00:05:27:00 - 00:05:31:26
CJ
Was this was this before marijuana was legal? Hahahahahahahaha.
00:05:31:28 - 00:05:39:13
Speaker 1
Yes. But I'll tell you. I'll tell you. You know, I've always.
00:05:39:13 - 00:06:02:25
Big Al
Been intrigued by quieter cities. You know, the cities that are right there on the equator or, you know, slightly above or below it and, how how their economies work. How because they basically get 12 hours of sunlight and daylight every day of the year. So you just wonder, you know, you know, they don't have these huge swings like a city like Seattle, right?
00:06:02:28 - 00:06:17:24
Big Al
Or London, right, for that matter. You know, where they have these periods of darkness, it seems for a long time. Or, you know, I spent, one year because it was on my bucket list. I spent the, summer solstice in Anchorage, Alaska.
00:06:17:26 - 00:06:22:08
CJ
Can you explain what is the summer solstice? I mean, sounds like a great party to me.
00:06:22:15 - 00:06:27:11
Speaker 1
It is a great party. Okay, well, it's the it's the day when the sun is the highest.
00:06:28:22 - 00:06:53:09
Big Al
Here in, North America. So for us, you know, it's, but but for the opposite is the winter solstice for, I believe it's for, Sydney, Australia, you see what I'm saying? So we, operate on two separate, accesses. So, when the sun is the highest, you know, the days are the longest.
00:06:53:15 - 00:07:12:03
Big Al
And I was actually in Anchorage last year on the summer solstice. And it was it was awesome. I mean, the sun didn't go down until the sun really never went down. It got its lowest, darkest at, like 4 a.m. and it was still dusk, so it never really got dark.
00:07:12:04 - 00:07:15:27
Speaker 1
Interesting. Conversely, in the winter it works.
00:07:15:27 - 00:07:16:16
Big Al
The same way.
00:07:16:16 - 00:07:17:25
CJ
Never gets light.
00:07:17:28 - 00:07:19:24
Speaker 1
Or a little bit of it. Wow.
00:07:19:27 - 00:07:20:09
Big Al
Yeah.
00:07:20:09 - 00:07:33:28
CJ
Wow. That's interesting man. I can tell you. This is, That must have been one hell of a joint. Amen. And you, Denver Broncos. By the way, you noticed a little rasp in my voice.
00:07:34:00 - 00:07:35:01
Speaker 1
Or you yelling? No, I.
00:07:35:01 - 00:07:36:06
CJ
Was singing, bro.
00:07:36:09 - 00:07:37:17
Big Al
Oh, my goodness, I.
00:07:37:17 - 00:07:46:25
CJ
Was singing, man. And I'm telling you, bro, I'm up. I was in church, man. And when we, the choir was playing one song, but I was singing a different one because the spirit hit me in that way.
00:07:46:25 - 00:07:50:28
Speaker 1
And you, you're like earth, wind and flame, not earth, wind and fire.
00:07:50:29 - 00:07:53:20
CJ
I was more like wine and.
00:07:53:22 - 00:07:56:10
Speaker 1
You were more like b c wine and.
00:07:56:13 - 00:07:58:11
CJ
Hey, man, you Denver Broncos.
00:07:58:14 - 00:07:59:02
Speaker 1
Yeah. What about.
00:07:59:04 - 00:08:04:11
CJ
Another dramatic on the road victory.
00:08:04:11 - 00:08:04:26
Speaker 1
Against.
00:08:04:26 - 00:08:27:14
CJ
The Houston Texans? Your hometown Houston Texans? Man, I'm beginning to, you know, let me back up, man. I don't want to be hyperbolic, man. And just overstate the case, but it feels like this team, they're beginning to believe that they are good enough to win every game that they play. And it doesn't matter what happens over the course of a game.
00:08:27:14 - 00:08:53:25
CJ
Let me out. Let me, let me let me ask you a question this way. The way the Denver Broncos, now seven and two, tied for the best record in the National Football League. We've seen teams come out the gate where they just blow everyone out. They look invincible. And you've seen teams that come out and they win games the way the Denver Broncos are winning them in grand fashion late in games, is there an advantage to either one of those?
00:08:54:02 - 00:09:02:17
CJ
So the way the the team sort of, you know, gathers around or rallies around either one of those ways of winning football games?
00:09:02:17 - 00:09:22:21
Big Al
Yeah, I think that, you know, if you've ever had a chance to play with, a guy like John Elway, like, had a chance to play with or Steve Young or, or you had a chance to play with a guy like Joe Montana or Tom Brady. The game is never really over until all of the zeroes are on the scoreboard.
00:09:22:21 - 00:09:29:15
Big Al
And right now, I think the Denver Broncos, you know, I think they the question for me was.
00:09:29:18 - 00:09:30:06
CJ
Can they.
00:09:30:06 - 00:09:40:20
Big Al
Play better okay. Can they play better? Offensively I don't believe so. Defensively I think there may be one more level.
00:09:40:20 - 00:09:41:03
CJ
Really.
00:09:41:03 - 00:09:42:16
Speaker 1
I do believe that they have.
00:09:42:16 - 00:10:07:14
Big Al
One more level only only way that I'm saying that I don't believe so offensively, it's because when you look at the Denver Broncos and their wide receiver group, I don't know if we have a Pro Bowl type receiver at any position, whether it's tight end or, wide receivers. And, R.J. Reynolds certainly had a nice catch out the backfield last week for a touchdown.
00:10:07:16 - 00:10:30:08
Big Al
But in general, you know, RJ Harvey I mean, RJ Harvey, RJ Harvey had the, the touchdown. On a, on an island. But, you know, when you look at the Denver Broncos, let's just say that we are going to take away the number one option. And basically that's what Houston did last week. Who you throwing the ball to.
00:10:30:10 - 00:10:56:28
Big Al
You know, like do we have a second and third a fourth option where you can really depend on and and is the quarterback able to get it there. In the clutch. He has been right now. But the margin of error is really thin. It's really thin. You know, I used to look at, at the end of training camps, this one, you know, you have a fantasy, fantastic roster.
00:10:57:00 - 00:11:01:04
Big Al
And the team is poised to really make a deep run.
00:11:01:06 - 00:11:02:24
Speaker 1
When you get to the end.
00:11:02:24 - 00:11:06:12
Big Al
Of training camp. And there are final cut downs.
00:11:06:14 - 00:11:07:21
Speaker 1
How many of the guys.
00:11:07:21 - 00:11:32:23
Big Al
That are on your team end up going to another team and making a contribution? And that's when you know that you have a really deep team. You know, that the team that you have is, is capable and that you're really talented. So I don't really look at the Denver Broncos wide receivers, tight ends. Although dosage has start to show up.
00:11:33:05 - 00:11:41:12
Big Al
But he was a free agent. But when, when you get to the end of cuts and your guys make other teams and they have a significant role.
00:11:41:12 - 00:11:42:10
CJ
You're thinking of Ingram.
00:11:42:15 - 00:11:48:00
Big Al
No, no, no, I'm thinking about the dosage. Dosage? I think I think he's playing for the bears.
00:11:48:04 - 00:11:49:21
CJ
Oh that's. Yeah yeah yeah. Yep yep.
00:11:49:21 - 00:11:50:03
Speaker 1
That's right.
00:11:50:03 - 00:11:51:02
Big Al
But I think it's.
00:11:51:20 - 00:11:52:15
CJ
He's missing as a.
00:11:52:15 - 00:11:53:18
Speaker 1
Player. Yeah.
00:11:53:21 - 00:12:00:09
Big Al
But I mean, but he was a free agent, right? I'm talking about the guys that you actually cut off for your roster. How many of those guys go and play some.
00:12:00:09 - 00:12:05:21
CJ
Are those guys good enough to. Right you can let go of guys who are contributors in this, right?
00:12:05:21 - 00:12:30:10
Big Al
Right. Like I'll give you an example after, the Super Bowl 50 team. Of course, we had a fantastic roster. A guy that a reserve on that team was Shaquille Barrett. Yeah. Shaq Barrett, end up going to. Right. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended up having, Pro Bowl season. I think he finished second or third and a defensive player of the year.
00:12:30:12 - 00:12:31:23
CJ
Great career, great.
00:12:31:23 - 00:12:35:11
Big Al
Career in Tampa. I mean, the guy won the Super Bowl and he was a force.
00:12:35:13 - 00:12:36:29
Speaker 1
And he was a reserve guy on the.
00:12:36:29 - 00:12:37:29
Big Al
Denver Broncos.
00:12:38:03 - 00:12:39:15
Speaker 1
So that tells you how.
00:12:39:15 - 00:12:40:25
Big Al
Strong the Russell was.
00:12:40:25 - 00:12:42:28
Speaker 1
Defensively. I think we have.
00:12:42:28 - 00:12:44:05
Big Al
Some guys like that.
00:12:44:07 - 00:12:47:15
Speaker 1
Offensively.
00:12:47:17 - 00:12:49:19
Big Al
I don't I don't I don't think so.
00:12:49:19 - 00:13:04:09
CJ
That's interesting man because that does frame I think the question in a different way a makes me even think about the question differently. Right. Because I'm thinking this is a team that just believes that no matter what they're going to be in game, the defense is going to make sure they're in game.
00:13:04:09 - 00:13:05:20
Big Al
Yeah they are. They're stacked.
00:13:05:20 - 00:13:06:27
Speaker 1
In a loaded on the defense.
00:13:06:27 - 00:13:28:17
CJ
And the offense. Their personality is just keep us in it and we'll find a way to win it. And the way you just frame that though, one would think, hey man, this is a defensive team. The the margin of for growth is with the offense. At some point they're going to have to kick in the gear. But it's interesting.
00:13:28:17 - 00:13:32:08
CJ
You said the defense could be even better. The defense because they have the personnel to.
00:13:32:08 - 00:13:48:08
Big Al
Be they have the personnel. They have the coaching. And this is you know, this is not this. I think that they I think the offense has one of the top, you know, top five offensive minds in all of football. I think Sean Payton is that good offensively.
00:13:48:14 - 00:13:50:12
CJ
Why haven't we seen the translate that.
00:13:50:14 - 00:14:14:10
Big Al
Because we don't have the actual you know I don't we don't have the actual talent. The Mets the play calling. And I think that the offensive line is solid, but and we've we've Ben Powers has gone down. We've, suffered some, some, a little bit of setback, but you know who our backup quarterback is?
00:14:14:12 - 00:14:22:19
Big Al
Jarrett Stidham. Yeah. Do you trust Jarrett Stidham to win a game. You know if Bo Nix goes.
00:14:22:19 - 00:14:24:11
CJ
Down he's capable.
00:14:24:13 - 00:14:27:27
Big Al
I don't I didn't say that I said do you trust him.
00:14:27:29 - 00:14:35:06
CJ
Well that's degrees of trust man I mean like what do you mean what I put my my paycheck on it.
00:14:35:08 - 00:14:38:03
Speaker 1
No okay. Let's just look at now I'm just saying he's capable.
00:14:38:03 - 00:15:02:29
Big Al
Well, I'm just saying, like, when you look at a team like, let's just take the New York Giants because we know one of those guys. Well, they're in Russell Wilson, but they also have Jameis Winston as a reserve. Guys have huge NFL backgrounds and have played a lot. And your confidence level in those guys are fantastic. Oh you could say what happened last night with the Arizona Cardinals.
00:15:03:00 - 00:15:12:23
Big Al
Exactly right. You know, Kyler Murray is out for, you know, for three games. And, they have excellent backup quarterback play.
00:15:12:23 - 00:15:18:22
CJ
North Carolina State. Yeah, drafted by New England. It'll come to me, but your point is well-taken.
00:15:18:22 - 00:15:19:13
Big Al
Yeah. I mean, but he's a.
00:15:19:13 - 00:15:21:29
CJ
Guy that can go it now. He started three games, right?
00:15:21:29 - 00:15:22:07
Big Al
Right.
00:15:22:07 - 00:15:22:23
CJ
It's only one.
00:15:22:23 - 00:15:23:05
Speaker 1
One.
00:15:23:05 - 00:15:44:03
Big Al
Yeah yeah. But he's average better offensively. He's averaged 255 yards passing. Since being inserted as a starter. So when you, when you look at it you know the Arizona Arizona Cardinals are stacked well at that position. The backup I'm just you know, like when, when, Stroud went out the game last week,
00:15:44:05 - 00:15:45:08
CJ
You kind of knew it was over.
00:15:45:08 - 00:15:51:09
Big Al
You kind of knew it was over. It was just, you know, it was over.
00:15:51:09 - 00:15:56:15
CJ
Yeah, that was dumb. Gomer Pyle could do it a week next week.
00:15:56:17 - 00:15:59:12
Speaker 1
Anyway but but it was you know what was what was.
00:15:59:12 - 00:16:01:09
Big Al
Great about it is that soon as.
00:16:01:09 - 00:16:03:23
Speaker 1
He was out the game I was like well Broncos win.
00:16:03:23 - 00:16:04:15
CJ
Yeah.
00:16:04:17 - 00:16:05:23
Speaker 1
And I took him a long time.
00:16:05:26 - 00:16:23:03
Big Al
To to actually put it together. Put it together numerous times. Numerous times. Courtland Sutton, made a terrific play, for, for a long touchdown, on that left sideline. And things looked like they were going to start to open up for him.
00:16:23:03 - 00:16:24:27
CJ
That's right. And look.
00:16:24:29 - 00:16:26:13
Speaker 1
But he should stop scoring.
00:16:26:15 - 00:16:54:07
CJ
Well, and here's the interesting thing, because, you know, the funny thing about football is a lot can unfold over the course of three and a half quarters. Plus, what it came down to for Houston in this game was whether or not the backup quarterback and, you know, in the absence of snatching his name out of thin air, I'm just going to call him Gomer Pyle.
00:16:54:09 - 00:16:59:24
CJ
And do you remember Gomer Pyle. Of course didn't get to remind you Gomer Pyle a little bit.
00:16:59:27 - 00:17:02:00
Speaker 1
Anyway name anyway would be one of the guys.
00:17:02:00 - 00:17:04:06
Big Al
Back there to give us his name I'm just throwing.
00:17:04:06 - 00:17:04:22
CJ
I know.
00:17:04:25 - 00:17:05:27
Big Al
I know I'm just you know.
00:17:05:27 - 00:17:15:29
CJ
But but late in the game they forced the Broncos into a punt situation. The Broncos pat pin them somewhat deep into their own territory though.
00:17:16:01 - 00:17:22:04
Speaker 1
Hey I have the ball with a minute and like 40s to go with the game, but to put the game away.
00:17:22:04 - 00:17:33:12
CJ
But and it's zero confidence and him being able to do that and that's didn't matter what happened up to that point. If he could go and gain 60 yards 50 yards.
00:17:33:16 - 00:17:35:20
Speaker 1
Game over Houston Texans.
00:17:35:20 - 00:17:36:01
CJ
Win the game.
00:17:36:08 - 00:17:37:15
Big Al
That's right Houston wins.
00:17:37:18 - 00:17:43:25
Speaker 1
And that's a strong is there. You pause there. The yeah you probably don't have a 15 point game with.
00:17:43:27 - 00:17:46:17
Big Al
Both teams at 15. You know that.
00:17:46:17 - 00:17:47:20
Speaker 1
Guy's a little better at.
00:17:47:20 - 00:17:53:28
Big Al
The quarterback position. That's why you know he's top pick in the draft. But
00:17:54:00 - 00:17:55:21
Speaker 1
Yeah you just start looking at it and.
00:17:56:00 - 00:17:58:07
Big Al
It's just,
00:17:58:09 - 00:18:00:22
Speaker 1
You just got to know that.
00:18:00:25 - 00:18:25:06
Big Al
To win a Super Bowl, first of all, you have to have the requisite amount of talent, both coaching and, with the players. Ownership has to be great. Okay? You don't win Super Bowls with bad ownership. And then I think what happens happens is that the team has a little bit of heartbreak before you finally break through.
00:18:25:08 - 00:18:41:26
Big Al
I think every NFL team besides the Rams that I can think of, that have won a Super Bowl, have had to go through some hardships or been to the playoffs a couple of times before they understood and knew what it took to actually win it.
00:18:41:28 - 00:18:43:24
CJ
Before they get over the hump, you gotta get over the hump.
00:18:43:25 - 00:18:44:12
Speaker 1
You got to get.
00:18:44:12 - 00:18:45:03
Big Al
Over the hump.
00:18:45:04 - 00:18:54:09
CJ
Buffalo bills seems like one of those teams that, you know, the Baltimore Ravens. Well I don't think I'm right. They're not out of it. But those are the teams that you like. They're poised to get over.
00:18:54:12 - 00:18:56:14
Speaker 1
If they get in the playoffs they might do it.
00:18:56:21 - 00:18:57:16
CJ
Not us exactly.
00:18:57:16 - 00:18:58:17
Speaker 1
Right. But the Broncos were.
00:18:58:17 - 00:19:25:23
Big Al
In the playoffs last year. And you know I just don't I just you know there's something about it. And you know it's my squad. It's my squad. There's something about them that still doesn't scream championship. And I think it's just on the offensive side because we don't have I was just thinking about this today. I was pulling together my greatest Denver Bronco football roster.
00:19:25:25 - 00:19:32:01
Big Al
There's not one guy on this team offensively that would make that, that, that that, yeah.
00:19:32:03 - 00:19:58:21
CJ
You're absolutely right. Now take it a step further because I was thinking right along those same lines, I don't think there's a guy on this offense who would be the best at his position that who is the best at this position in the National Football League today. Not one guy. And I'm trying to think of a Super Bowl championship team that did not have one guy on offense who might be considered the best at his position.
00:19:59:08 - 00:20:12:19
CJ
And so you have you have good players and the way, the way they play complementary football, I think particularly over the past 5 or 6 games.
00:20:12:21 - 00:20:13:09
Speaker 1
Offensive.
00:20:13:09 - 00:20:18:07
Big Al
When when you when you say complementary football, what do you mean defense plays great and offense eventually figures it out.
00:20:18:07 - 00:20:26:12
CJ
Punt it. We don't have to score right. We don't have to put the ball at risk to score touchdowns. We could be more conservative defensively.
00:20:26:12 - 00:20:28:11
Speaker 1
We did. We just didn't.
00:20:28:14 - 00:20:29:24
CJ
Earlier we did the Texans.
00:20:30:00 - 00:20:35:00
Big Al
The Texans just didn't take advantage. But I mean we had some turnover worthy throws from that.
00:20:35:02 - 00:20:58:19
CJ
Well I mean and and but I'm saying the offense is putting the ball at less risk because they they know the defense is going to give them that, get them another possession. Right, relatively unscathed. Now, here's now the third element of this. And a team like Denver, that offense offense is not explosive. The defense is amongst the best in the league.
00:20:58:22 - 00:21:39:27
CJ
There's one other unit that factors in big. And I think it always factors in big time, particularly when your offense isn't great in the special teams have been it's been feast or famine. I mean, Mims can be he can pop one at any moment, but too many mistakes. That kind of puts you behind field position, which is vital for a team like the Denver Broncos and so I think you put all that together, you muscle all that up and you get the feeling like maybe this team, maybe this isn't the year quite yet, but they're making progress towards being a team that, could ultimately challenge you like the trajectory that they're on right now.
00:21:40:00 - 00:22:03:17
CJ
I don't know that they have enough this year to win it. Now, which leads me to my final question about the Broncos here today, sitting at seven and two, tied for the best record in the National Football League. I mean, I can't believe we sent it after nine games. Are they a top record aside? Are they a top three team in your mind?
00:22:03:19 - 00:22:04:25
Big Al
In the AFC.
00:22:04:27 - 00:22:06:00
CJ
In football man.
00:22:06:00 - 00:22:08:11
Big Al
And I know.
00:22:08:13 - 00:22:12:07
CJ
No no definitively despite their record being the best.
00:22:12:09 - 00:22:14:00
Big Al
Right. Yeah.
00:22:14:00 - 00:22:20:01
CJ
Now who are your top. Give me a top three. Philly.
00:22:20:03 - 00:22:47:13
Big Al
Yeah. Who they beat. I think Philly has gone out made some trades and they've improved that roster. I think they were in a malaise at the time. AJ Brown was kicking up dust and that whole thing was wonky if you will. But the Broncos made them make these changes because, the Broncos got that win late in that ball game and it's become the Broncos as the best fourth quarter team in all of football.
00:22:47:21 - 00:23:13:03
Big Al
I'll tell you, I would say that it's going to be hard for me to take away from what the Kansas City Chiefs who don't hold the lead in the AFC West. It's the Broncos. It's going to be hard for me to see the Buffalo Bills. Yep. Okay. The Kansas City Chiefs you're seeing the Eagles. And I'm going to tell you something man.
00:23:13:04 - 00:23:37:08
Big Al
You know I was so surprised watching that game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Steelers last weekend of how good the Colts were in a game where they turned the ball over five times and they still were, you know, right there in the mix. I mean, you don't you don't you don't you when you turn the ball over five times in the game, you're supposed to lose by 20.
00:23:37:08 - 00:23:46:00
Big Al
Yeah. You know, and they were right there with them I think. Or within a score of the Steelers. And that was a road game.
00:23:46:02 - 00:23:51:02
Speaker 1
So I think that, you know, quietly I think quietly.
00:23:51:09 - 00:24:00:28
Big Al
The Colts will have something to say at the end of the season. The the Patriots my goodness I mean they are well coached team.
00:24:00:28 - 00:24:03:14
CJ
That's right. That's the surprise team of the year.
00:24:03:14 - 00:24:03:28
Speaker 1
So I think.
00:24:03:28 - 00:24:04:26
Big Al
The Colts are the surprise.
00:24:05:02 - 00:24:05:28
CJ
Oh that's that's true.
00:24:05:28 - 00:24:07:19
Big Al
I mean Daniel Jones.
00:24:10:00 - 00:24:16:09
Big Al
You know I just I think that the Denver Broncos could be in the top five.
00:24:16:11 - 00:24:30:21
Big Al
I think they could be in the top five if you play them at home there in the top three. But on the road, like I want to see this team, play the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Not at the you know not I think the Broncos hold a two game lead over the Chiefs now.
00:24:30:22 - 00:24:34:15
CJ
Yep. Went one over the Chargers and two over the Chiefs.
00:24:34:15 - 00:24:43:00
Big Al
Yeah I want to you know the Chiefs are desperate. You know they they they still need to win to get into the playoffs. Yeah. We've never seen them like this.
00:24:43:15 - 00:24:45:04
CJ
It's a lot of football left to be a lot.
00:24:45:04 - 00:25:07:02
Big Al
It's a lot. But I just never count that team off because they have Chris Jones at defensive tackle. I mean he has an absolute game record C.J. He's a game wrecker and they have the league's best quarterback since Joe. Well since Tom Brady's retired. So I'm I'm looking I'm looking at that squad like that's the team you got to beat.
00:25:07:05 - 00:25:32:03
Big Al
You know. And can you beat them all. Defense once again is getting better. Our defense almost neutralizes their offense is their defense. And Spagnola Spagnola the defensive coordinator for the Kansas City teams. Him and Sean Payton in an absolute duel for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. Who do I have? I think I in that situation, I guess.
00:25:32:03 - 00:25:32:21
Big Al
Bags.
00:25:32:21 - 00:25:33:14
Speaker 1
Yes, bag.
00:25:33:14 - 00:25:56:24
Big Al
I got bags, man. He's been he's done it to almost everybody. And if it's not for, you know a bad call here and there, you know, maybe, maybe it chiefs don't have the, the Super Bowls that they have. But I'm telling you right now, that guy is he's an excellent defensive play caller against an excellent offensive play caller.
00:25:56:26 - 00:26:01:27
Big Al
But in the clutch, he always has this extra blitz that you're just not ready for.
00:26:01:29 - 00:26:18:23
CJ
You know, it's interesting how you frame that because I was thinking about the Denver Broncos Kansas City Chiefs match up, and I was I was thinking about the flip side Vance's defense versus and these offense.
00:26:18:26 - 00:26:21:04
Big Al
I think it's a push.
00:26:21:07 - 00:26:22:03
CJ
I think it's a push.
00:26:22:04 - 00:26:22:26
Big Al
I think it's a push.
00:26:22:27 - 00:26:26:05
CJ
Okay. So if that's a push, then it comes down to to how you framed it.
00:26:26:05 - 00:26:33:15
Big Al
Yes. And I think that the one thing that the Kansas City, Kansas City Chiefs have been good at.
00:26:33:18 - 00:26:34:21
Speaker 1
Quietly, that nobody.
00:26:34:21 - 00:26:46:09
Big Al
Talks about is their special teams units. And as that group gets better with those wide receivers, they got some they got some take the top off the defense kind of speed over there.
00:26:47:03 - 00:26:47:15
CJ
When.
00:26:47:15 - 00:26:48:07
Speaker 1
They settle in.
00:26:48:11 - 00:27:01:20
Big Al
And they understand how it all works, usually that happens in third and fourth quarter of a season, which we're in right now, going forward. So I'm just hey, man, I just I'm just here for the show.
00:27:01:23 - 00:27:14:25
Speaker 1
I mean, I want the I want the Broncos win. I just don't believe that they. This is year two. Like I said, I can't remember another team who.
00:27:14:28 - 00:27:17:25
Big Al
As an organization went from as.
00:27:17:25 - 00:27:18:14
Speaker 1
Bad as we.
00:27:18:14 - 00:27:24:24
Big Al
Were three years ago to Super Bowl contender two years later.
00:27:24:27 - 00:27:26:08
Speaker 1
I just.
00:27:26:10 - 00:27:27:09
Big Al
It's Bo Nix.
00:27:27:09 - 00:27:27:20
Speaker 1
Second.
00:27:27:20 - 00:27:30:13
Big Al
Year. You know, like I say, the only.
00:27:30:13 - 00:27:31:15
Speaker 1
Team I've ever seen do.
00:27:31:15 - 00:27:41:20
Big Al
It was the greatest show on turf. And that was with Kurt Warner in his, I think it was his rookie year. That was he was outstanding. Yeah. Second year.
00:27:41:22 - 00:27:42:27
CJ
That was a fun team to watch.
00:27:43:00 - 00:27:43:27
Speaker 1
Yeah, but but.
00:27:43:29 - 00:27:44:10
Big Al
You know.
00:27:44:10 - 00:27:45:14
CJ
Bill, you finally.
00:27:45:17 - 00:27:51:14
Speaker 1
Off the top of your mind, can you think of one? You know, because it's the all the other teams have been through stuff.
00:27:51:14 - 00:27:52:22
CJ
Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:53:04 - 00:27:55:02
Speaker 1
Yeah. And and I don't know if you say the Broncos.
00:27:55:02 - 00:27:58:16
Big Al
Have been through stuff. I mean, maybe, maybe some people think they have.
00:27:58:18 - 00:28:17:13
CJ
Well, here we are, nine games into a 17 game schedule. Like like you said, there's a lot of football left to be played. So you know the script isn't completely written yet. But I like where the Denver Broncos are right now, are right now, because I think it's a team that just feels like doesn't matter. You know, we're going to win the game.
00:28:17:13 - 00:28:25:19
CJ
We're going to find a way to win the game. And with the Raiders coming up, which could our way you one it's a short week. They're they're.
00:28:25:19 - 00:28:25:29
Speaker 1
Playing at.
00:28:25:29 - 00:28:27:04
CJ
Home. They're at home.
00:28:27:04 - 00:28:27:27
Big Al
That should be a win.
00:28:27:28 - 00:28:38:03
CJ
That should be a win. And then you get a long week a little extra time to prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs who will be coming off of a bye week themselves.
00:28:38:10 - 00:28:41:22
Big Al
So I think Andy Reid is damn near perfect off of a bye.
00:28:41:22 - 00:28:54:19
CJ
Yeah. And this this is it's not a bye for the Broncos. But they do have extra days to prepare because they're playing on Thursday night this week. So there will be some balance to that. And that game is right here in Denver as well. So that'll be fun to to check out.
00:28:54:20 - 00:29:00:23
Big Al
Let me ask you this. You know, I saw an outstanding game last weekend.
00:29:00:24 - 00:29:02:10
CJ
Jacoby Brissett by the way.
00:29:02:10 - 00:29:08:23
Big Al
Jacoby Brissett, Arizona for the Arizona Cardinals.
00:29:08:25 - 00:29:23:19
Big Al
Let's let's look at that draft class again last year Caleb Williams okay Jayden Daniels yep. May Drake may break. May k bo nix.
00:29:23:19 - 00:29:25:01
Speaker 1
Yep.
00:29:25:04 - 00:29:29:15
CJ
Your boy in Atlanta. Michael Penix Michael Penix jr.
00:29:29:17 - 00:29:31:20
Big Al
That's the top five right. Those are the five.
00:29:31:25 - 00:29:32:25
CJ
Yep.
00:29:32:28 - 00:29:39:02
Big Al
Guys that were drafted in the first round right there. How do you rank them.
00:29:39:04 - 00:29:40:08
Speaker 1
I mean that without.
00:29:40:10 - 00:29:41:06
CJ
Thinking about this.
00:29:41:08 - 00:29:42:13
Speaker 1
That was a crazy game.
00:29:42:13 - 00:29:47:26
Big Al
Last week with, the Chicago Bears in the Cincinnati Bengals. I mean.
00:29:48:00 - 00:29:49:13
CJ
That was that was crazy.
00:29:49:13 - 00:29:52:14
Big Al
Absolute shootout man. That was that was fun to watch.
00:29:52:14 - 00:29:54:06
Speaker 1
Is that that that that.
00:29:54:07 - 00:30:01:09
Big Al
That's the kind of game film you go want to go back. You want to watch. If you play offense defense, you just shake your head and say, let's get it. You know, I'm glad we got the win.
00:30:01:11 - 00:30:09:28
CJ
So I think, I think the the genesis of your question is whether or not Caleb was.
00:30:10:00 - 00:30:11:02
Speaker 1
Redrafted all over.
00:30:11:02 - 00:30:12:24
CJ
Again, based on what we're seeing now.
00:30:12:24 - 00:30:14:09
Speaker 1
Right now, right now, redraft
00:30:14:16 - 00:30:28:27
Big Al
20 was the 2023 NFL first round after the halfway point, right around the halfway point, basically for the entire league. Who goes number one?
00:30:28:29 - 00:30:35:27
CJ
Wow. You know, it's it's maybe Jayden Daniels. Because of the full package of what I've seen.
00:30:35:27 - 00:30:38:07
Big Al
And he's been an injury prone.
00:30:38:07 - 00:30:41:08
Speaker 1
But that's okay okay. Go ahead. Go ahead.
00:30:41:11 - 00:30:42:02
Big Al
Who's number two.
00:30:42:03 - 00:30:45:08
CJ
Probably.
00:30:45:10 - 00:30:56:25
CJ
Drake may number three and Caleb Williams is quietly. Yeah. In the case.
00:30:56:25 - 00:30:58:00
Speaker 1
Yes.
00:30:58:03 - 00:31:09:08
CJ
And and and here's the thing. It'll be a lot closer right than it did. It seemed like it was then. So I would probably go. Jaden, Drake. Caleb.
00:31:09:10 - 00:31:15:17
Speaker 1
Bo picks. That's that's really good, man. That's exactly the order.
00:31:15:20 - 00:31:16:12
CJ
That that that he had.
00:31:16:12 - 00:31:18:02
Speaker 1
Exactly the order I had it in.
00:31:18:02 - 00:31:18:27
CJ
That's probably what I.
00:31:18:27 - 00:31:20:11
Speaker 1
Yeah. I mean, because one guy was a.
00:31:20:11 - 00:31:23:17
Big Al
Rookie of the year and he was clearly the best player in, Jayden.
00:31:23:17 - 00:31:24:19
Speaker 1
Daniels. Right.
00:31:24:21 - 00:31:42:08
Big Al
By the way, for him getting hurt like he did at the end of that, you know, contest in a game that had little to no chance to win with seven plus minutes ago and you down, you know, four touchdowns. You know that that was the only advice he's done for the year.
00:31:42:22 - 00:31:44:09
CJ
Is he is it official. He's out for the year.
00:31:44:10 - 00:31:44:26
Speaker 1
I mean he's got.
00:31:44:26 - 00:31:48:27
Big Al
A dislocated elbow. It's not his throwing arm. But listen man.
00:31:49:00 - 00:31:50:12
Speaker 1
This this just you got eight.
00:31:50:12 - 00:32:13:03
Big Al
Games ago. You're not going to rush him back. Let him heal. He's your franchise. Probably shouldn't have been in there. That's true. And, just move on. But, I have it just like that as well, you know, like Michael Penix Jr has had some injuries as well. Kirk Cousins has had to come in like that's another situation where you look on paper.
00:32:13:06 - 00:32:21:07
Big Al
You know you got you know tremendous depth at the quarterback position is costing the Atlanta Falcons a lot of money. But are.
00:32:21:07 - 00:32:22:05
Speaker 1
We.
00:32:22:07 - 00:32:32:02
Big Al
Are we in that category. Are we the type of team that say if Bo Nix goes down Jarrett Stidham can come in and play.
00:32:32:04 - 00:32:33:02
Speaker 1
You see I'm saying like.
00:32:33:07 - 00:32:34:21
CJ
I hear what you're saying I hit that.
00:32:34:25 - 00:32:41:17
Speaker 1
But but but but in the in our conversation about the draft class I have it just like.
00:32:41:17 - 00:32:43:00
Big Al
You have it right now.
00:32:43:02 - 00:32:45:01
CJ
Occasionally you have a stroke of brilliance.
00:32:45:02 - 00:32:47:19
Speaker 1
But but but here's here's what the.
00:32:47:19 - 00:32:57:11
Big Al
Record would indicate okay. It's just the opposite. What the record would say. Bo Nix is number one, okay.
00:32:57:13 - 00:33:00:06
Speaker 1
Because they did make it to the playoffs.
00:33:00:09 - 00:33:00:27
Big Al
In his rookie.
00:33:00:27 - 00:33:02:06
CJ
Year. Okay.
00:33:02:09 - 00:33:04:08
Speaker 1
All right. He does have the.
00:33:04:10 - 00:33:10:04
Big Al
Team in the second best in the number one position in the NFL in year two.
00:33:10:06 - 00:33:10:27
CJ
Yep.
00:33:11:00 - 00:33:12:05
Big Al
But the question is.
00:33:12:05 - 00:33:13:00
Speaker 1
Everybody looks at.
00:33:13:00 - 00:33:30:24
Big Al
Bo Nix and say that he is still not quite there. Right. And all the other guys are getting better. But in reality it's actually Bo Nix who has been the most consistent and has has led to more upside than all the others.
00:33:30:24 - 00:33:54:26
CJ
Well, here's here's the way I view. And that's a good point, man. But here's how I view it. Like, like Caleb Williams, the first pick in the draft, obviously came with slow start, right situation around him, stable coaching. He was in the worst reason that that team had the first pick of a draft. Right? They weren't very.
00:33:54:26 - 00:33:55:00
Speaker 1
Good.
00:33:55:01 - 00:33:56:24
Big Al
Usually those are the hardest team to turnaround.
00:33:56:25 - 00:34:04:03
CJ
Hardest teams to turn around. We saw like the Caleb Magic at USC and Oklahoma before that.
00:34:04:03 - 00:34:05:24
Big Al
Reckless at times in his rookie year.
00:34:05:25 - 00:34:13:17
CJ
Yeah yeah yeah. But you know it just but he was he was moving towards a greater upside. Now that was he was.
00:34:13:17 - 00:34:14:21
Big Al
So damn bad though.
00:34:14:21 - 00:34:40:02
CJ
Black. But but I'm saying but we saw what we see now. We're like damn. That's why he was drafted first overall in that draft I think right. Here's my point I think you take I put Drake Maye Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels in the category and their category is I man. They're they're going to be they came out really good and they're going to be at their best in five years.
00:34:41:08 - 00:34:58:17
CJ
You look at the other guys and you look at those numbers right there. Right. You look at the comparison there. Total touchdowns 52 like you I mean that's good stuff right. 5240 3431 it tells part of the story. Bo Nix and.
00:34:59:11 - 00:35:00:24
Speaker 1
Is that is that the only story that.
00:35:00:24 - 00:35:01:08
Big Al
You really need.
00:35:01:08 - 00:35:03:09
CJ
To see? No, no, not at all. That's not at all.
00:35:03:09 - 00:35:04:20
Speaker 1
I mean, I mean.
00:35:04:23 - 00:35:17:21
CJ
I can explain that Bo Nix and Penix, I think, are two guys who came into the league closer to their ceiling than the other three. And so that's why it's interesting.
00:35:17:21 - 00:35:18:29
Speaker 1
Why? Oh. That's good.
00:35:19:00 - 00:35:20:06
CJ
I look for older.
00:35:20:06 - 00:35:21:06
Speaker 1
Quarterbacks, older.
00:35:21:06 - 00:35:21:23
CJ
Quarterbacks.
00:35:21:23 - 00:35:23:02
Speaker 1
Playing a lot. Both of them.
00:35:23:02 - 00:35:34:23
CJ
Were 38 when they got into the league. Right. But now that they're all the quarterbacks probably pick it up quicker. They are. They are guys who.
00:35:34:25 - 00:35:34:26
Big Al
Are.
00:35:34:29 - 00:35:56:17
CJ
Closer to their ceiling right now. That's why I with Bo, when I watch Bo play, I see a I see a good NFL quarterback. And I think that's what the Denver Broncos have. I don't think you necessarily get a guy who's going to move much in terms of his ability. You got a good one.
00:35:56:18 - 00:36:01:03
Speaker 1
But I'm talking about now, I'm not talking about what is what they're going to be. I'm seeing right now as it still.
00:36:01:03 - 00:36:03:16
CJ
I mean as you dryer, you said you wanted to redraft you.
00:36:03:16 - 00:36:04:01
Speaker 1
Recently.
00:36:04:01 - 00:36:05:08
CJ
Draft. Yeah.
00:36:05:11 - 00:36:14:28
Speaker 1
We drafted just like it is right now. Don't don't don't give me what possibly could happen in a year and a half. Two years I'm talking about right now. If you had if you were a GM and.
00:36:14:28 - 00:36:16:27
CJ
I thought you had quarterbacks today. Yeah. No.
00:36:16:27 - 00:36:22:00
Speaker 1
Forget that. Only those five though. Just those five.
00:36:22:02 - 00:36:23:15
Speaker 1
Because naturally you pick.
00:36:23:15 - 00:36:25:13
Big Al
Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen the go number.
00:36:25:13 - 00:36:26:20
Speaker 1
Oh I hear or no.
00:36:26:20 - 00:36:28:05
CJ
No I don't I'm talking about that draft right.
00:36:28:05 - 00:36:30:05
Big Al
Right.
00:36:30:08 - 00:36:31:19
CJ
Man that's an interesting question.
00:36:31:19 - 00:36:33:27
Speaker 1
Then how would you draft for now.
00:36:33:27 - 00:36:35:10
CJ
For this season.
00:36:35:10 - 00:36:38:11
Speaker 1
No no no no I'm just saying you know what you know about them.
00:36:38:13 - 00:36:42:14
Big Al
Pick pick your first one of the five.
00:36:42:17 - 00:36:44:16
CJ
Again for this season I need somebody.
00:36:44:16 - 00:36:48:01
Speaker 1
No no no no or the rest of this season going forward.
00:36:48:01 - 00:36:52:23
CJ
Yeah. So yeah that's that's what I'm saying. If we're if I'm picking to predict.
00:36:52:25 - 00:36:57:23
Speaker 1
No no no you have the first pick man. Just make the damn pick I made. Damn dog.
00:36:57:26 - 00:36:59:29
CJ
Yeah. You keep your questions. I just.
00:37:00:01 - 00:37:01:19
Speaker 1
You know, I need to.
00:37:01:22 - 00:37:03:21
CJ
You need to take some time and prep these damn questions.
00:37:03:21 - 00:37:08:20
Speaker 1
Listen, man, I just ask you to redraft the the top five quarterbacks, and,
00:37:08:22 - 00:37:11:24
CJ
And I gave them. I gave you the redraft. Okay, then you ask me some other.
00:37:12:00 - 00:37:18:20
Speaker 1
Now, but you start using things like, like Aids and and then we throw the stat up there. Can we throw that stat back up there again.
00:37:18:26 - 00:37:23:24
CJ
That's part of the reason right? Okay. So as your point that that's the whole story.
00:37:23:25 - 00:37:30:00
Speaker 1
And I didn't say that. I said who do you take. Number one in a redraft.
00:37:30:02 - 00:37:31:09
CJ
I think I told you.
00:37:31:11 - 00:37:35:01
Speaker 1
And you said Jayden Daniels. Yes okay.
00:37:35:03 - 00:37:39:10
CJ
I said Jayden Daniels Drake Maye Caleb Williams, Bo nix.
00:37:39:11 - 00:37:41:27
Speaker 1
Wait wait wait. You said Jayden Daniels first. Drake May.
00:37:41:27 - 00:37:43:18
Big Al
2nd. Right? Yes. Okay.
00:37:43:20 - 00:37:44:03
CJ
Yes.
00:37:44:09 - 00:37:45:04
Big Al
Okay.
00:37:45:07 - 00:37:46:10
CJ
You good on that?
00:37:46:13 - 00:37:49:23
Speaker 1
And, Hey, listen, I don't think that I think the list is I think your.
00:37:49:23 - 00:37:54:15
Big Al
List as a, as a, as it's constructed right now is, is really damn good.
00:37:54:15 - 00:38:07:24
CJ
And the and the reason why my list and this is what you tried to take away from our argument, which I don't understand. And then you kind of put it back in. But the reason for my list being that way is because I am projecting. I am projecting now from.
00:38:07:24 - 00:38:08:04
Speaker 1
What you're.
00:38:08:05 - 00:38:09:04
CJ
Seen. Yeah.
00:38:09:04 - 00:38:15:27
Speaker 1
If you if you would have gave, if you would have gave Sean Payton Drake me you saying this.
00:38:15:27 - 00:38:19:04
Big Al
Would have been unquestionably a much better office?
00:38:19:06 - 00:38:24:15
CJ
No, no, no, I'm not saying I think I don't think Bo Nix is what's holding back the Broncos.
00:38:24:15 - 00:38:26:06
Speaker 1
I didn't say that they were. Might you.
00:38:26:06 - 00:38:29:10
CJ
Say like, because you because you you wanted to substitute. No, I.
00:38:29:10 - 00:38:32:14
Speaker 1
Just I want to I want to say if I want to say.
00:38:32:14 - 00:38:35:16
Big Al
That, you know, like, you know, you got.
00:38:35:17 - 00:38:36:11
Speaker 1
Caleb Williams.
00:38:36:11 - 00:38:42:28
Big Al
Who was the number one overall pick. Offensive coaching staff last year were fired. Okay.
00:38:42:28 - 00:38:55:29
CJ
Yes. And it had you asked me this question at the beginning of this year, Caleb would have been fifth. He would have been fifth out of the five. But given what I've seen this year I'm like, oh this kid does have.
00:38:56:00 - 00:38:56:25
Speaker 1
Right. He just went out.
00:38:56:25 - 00:39:09:27
CJ
To Chicago and watched him play. Who. Just a couple weeks ago. Yeah, a few weeks ago. And I saw the kid up, up close him. You know, in the back in the, in the bowels of the stadium. And I'm, you know, kind of get a feel. He's a different kind of guy.
00:39:09:27 - 00:39:11:19
Speaker 1
You want to answer the stadium?
00:39:11:21 - 00:39:13:09
CJ
I said the.
00:39:13:12 - 00:39:14:25
Speaker 1
The bowels.
00:39:14:28 - 00:39:16:09
CJ
Just inside the stadium.
00:39:16:15 - 00:39:19:09
Speaker 1
Inside the inside. Whether the stadium.
00:39:19:12 - 00:39:26:23
CJ
Go inside the stadium, bro. Like the locker room area. That way. Are you going to go out?
00:39:26:23 - 00:39:34:18
Speaker 1
You are going to go to the stadium in the bowels. The way is the bowels, the butt?
00:39:34:21 - 00:39:37:18
CJ
No, the bowels isn't the the. I think the body is.
00:39:37:18 - 00:39:40:06
Speaker 1
Like meaning inside the body, within the bowels of the stadium.
00:39:40:12 - 00:39:45:13
CJ
Every time you have an opportunity to reference, but you do.
00:39:45:13 - 00:39:56:00
Speaker 1
So you don't want to. Who had that, damn BBL or CBL last week or BBL. You don't want that brought that up. I didn't bring that up.
00:39:56:03 - 00:39:59:05
CJ
Like at some point, man, we got to elevate. Like you can't be.
00:39:59:06 - 00:40:05:18
Speaker 1
I'm just saying you want me to. When that fault. Where's that photo from last week? When C.J. was bringing up?
00:40:05:20 - 00:40:06:20
Big Al
Hey, you know, because.
00:40:06:20 - 00:40:17:19
Speaker 1
Prime says you go in there flat, you go in that fat and you come out, pick it in a snicker. You you're the one that referenced this, and you had to have this image thrown up.
00:40:17:22 - 00:40:19:15
CJ
But that was a public service announcement.
00:40:19:15 - 00:40:21:08
Speaker 1
I was just saying, but did tell the women.
00:40:21:08 - 00:40:26:16
CJ
Out there that, you know, you.
00:40:28:04 - 00:40:28:25
CJ
Like I had a.
00:40:28:25 - 00:40:32:11
Speaker 1
Couple ads, obviously go into Walmart.
00:40:32:13 - 00:40:33:11
CJ
That's horrible.
00:40:33:13 - 00:40:35:23
Speaker 1
Like what's in there? No no no no no no no.
00:40:35:23 - 00:40:47:13
CJ
No DC you need to go up to both you guys. Both of you guys need to grow up. That oh goodness gracious bro. Look man. But that that's that's my regret. If we had to redrafted that's the order in which.
00:40:47:14 - 00:40:48:11
Big Al
Okay I like.
00:40:48:13 - 00:40:52:21
CJ
Now switching topics okay.
00:40:52:24 - 00:40:53:13
CJ
The news wasn't.
00:40:53:13 - 00:40:56:21
Speaker 1
Safe by the way. By the way third down and six.
00:40:56:21 - 00:41:10:00
Big Al
Before we get off this Broncos conversation okay. Third down and six last week. The Broncos on defense. And this is the Broncos have an elite pass rush unit.
00:41:10:03 - 00:41:11:01
Speaker 1
And I know there's a.
00:41:11:01 - 00:41:37:08
Big Al
Lot of conversation about that about the outside pass rushers Jonathan Cooper and and Nick Benito. But in the clutch when the game was on the line Zach Allen third down and six made the monster pass rush. And that was the end of the game. Yeah. If you don't make that play right there maybe Houston gets a first down and has a chance to have some momentum.
00:41:37:08 - 00:41:53:24
Big Al
But this is what I'm talking about. When you say that the Broncos have an elite pass rush. It's anchored by the two guys on the outside. But the guy inside is a Pro Bowl player and he's playing like a man. He's playing like a man child. So great job last week, man.
00:41:53:26 - 00:42:05:24
CJ
I'm glad you brought that up. We'll get to see you here in a second. I have another bigger question around college football. I want to ask you as well, will we see with with Patrick sitting out.
00:42:05:27 - 00:42:07:29
Big Al
You going to talk about the white corner?
00:42:08:02 - 00:42:12:19
CJ
No. See. No. You know man, you know.
00:42:12:19 - 00:42:17:19
Speaker 1
He was about the he was just about talk about the white coin. I know you think. Oh no no no no no no.
00:42:17:19 - 00:42:18:15
CJ
No no no.
00:42:18:15 - 00:42:21:05
Speaker 1
No no. This this is a continuation from last week.
00:42:21:09 - 00:42:28:15
CJ
We're gonna have a march on Denver like King had the march. It wasn't for like one, like, look, man, no, that's not what I was gonna ask.
00:42:28:15 - 00:42:29:28
Speaker 1
What were you gonna ask?
00:42:30:00 - 00:43:07:04
CJ
Relative to the pass rush? Part of what makes Denver so dangerous defensively? You mentioned Spagnola and how he can dial up pressure via the blitz right at the right time. I think Vijay has earned that type of reputation as well. Will we see less of that? Because you plan more coverage without the benefit of having the defensive player of the year locking down, and being able to lock down a receiver, do you have to be a little more conservative on the back end, which will not allow you to blitz as much?
00:43:07:04 - 00:43:10:00
CJ
And as a result, will we see a little less of that pressure?
00:43:10:01 - 00:43:10:18
Speaker 1
No, I think.
00:43:10:18 - 00:43:21:12
Big Al
That it's just the opposite. When you are a team that's really talented, let's just say that and this is, you know.
00:43:21:15 - 00:43:22:16
Speaker 1
This is.
00:43:22:23 - 00:43:48:23
Big Al
Wordplay, okay? Because some people call it a blitz, some people call it pressure. And a blitz technically is bring in one more than they have the blocked and to block. So if you bring five and they have five offensive linemen, that's technically not a blitz. It's a pressure because it all it does is guarantee every one of defenders have a one on one block for the most part.
00:43:48:24 - 00:43:58:17
Big Al
Now they could leave a running back in. And what we call that is a slow rush. And then that last guy becomes engaged. But it never really ends up being a blitz. It's a pressure.
00:44:00:00 - 00:44:02:03
Speaker 1
The Denver Broncos, if they.
00:44:02:03 - 00:44:04:25
Big Al
Are going to go with quick pressure.
00:44:04:27 - 00:44:07:24
Speaker 1
With their front four, I'm telling you right now.
00:44:08:00 - 00:44:12:26
Big Al
That ball's got to be gone. There's no there's no 2.5 seconds. There's you.
00:44:12:26 - 00:44:13:29
Speaker 1
Know if you get two.
00:44:13:29 - 00:44:19:11
Big Al
Seconds that's a long time against this pass rush. Because those guys win on first touch.
00:44:19:14 - 00:44:28:27
Speaker 1
And first touch in football when you play defensive line is when as soon as that guy is there, you do something to knock with him or you run by him or.
00:44:28:28 - 00:44:32:10
Big Al
You spin on the guy and you're right there in the quarterback lap.
00:44:32:12 - 00:44:38:12
Speaker 1
We are as good as any team that's ever played, and I want you to hear what I say. So I say this, okay.
00:44:38:20 - 00:44:39:00
Big Al
I want.
00:44:39:00 - 00:44:42:22
Speaker 1
You I want you to hear what I just said. This team right.
00:44:42:22 - 00:44:44:11
Big Al
Now is playing as good as.
00:44:44:11 - 00:44:45:09
Speaker 1
Any team.
00:44:45:16 - 00:44:48:09
Big Al
That's ever played for the Denver Broncos. Up front.
00:44:48:09 - 00:44:49:18
CJ
Okay. For the Denver Broncos.
00:44:49:20 - 00:44:49:29
Speaker 1
Okay.
00:44:49:29 - 00:44:51:27
Big Al
I'm just saying I'm we had some.
00:44:51:29 - 00:44:55:13
Speaker 1
We've had we've you know we've had three Super Bowl teams.
00:44:55:13 - 00:44:56:00
Big Al
Around here.
00:44:56:00 - 00:45:07:25
Speaker 1
Yeah. Okay. We've had we've had I think a total of seven teams that have gone to the Super Bowl. And I'm telling you that this team is playing as good as any of.
00:45:07:25 - 00:45:08:24
CJ
Them, this defense.
00:45:08:24 - 00:45:10:00
Speaker 1
This defensive line.
00:45:10:00 - 00:45:25:07
CJ
So when you say you make this that's a great point, this pass rush. And so when you say what you in essence saying is that if if there's if it's a one on one situation, the D-line is going to win, they're going to someone's going to win.
00:45:25:09 - 00:45:25:24
Big Al
They're going to win.
00:45:26:00 - 00:45:34:03
CJ
You have you know, you gave some crazy mathematical stat a couple of weeks ago. And the number of opportunities you have to say the quarterback.
00:45:34:04 - 00:45:34:18
Big Al
That's right.
00:45:34:18 - 00:45:36:26
CJ
And if they're all in one on one situation.
00:45:36:26 - 00:45:37:25
Speaker 1
They're all on win.
00:45:37:28 - 00:45:56:16
Big Al
They're all out. And then it if you got, one drop back and you got four guys rushing the passer, you got you got four opportunities to get the quarterback on the ground. Inevitably that's what happens here in Denver okay. And that password success rate is is it's it's over the top. You just you just.
00:45:56:19 - 00:45:57:21
Speaker 1
You just don't see.
00:45:57:21 - 00:46:12:16
Big Al
It very often I mean man teams would would would would kill to have what the Denver Broncos have up front. You know especially on the edges. But inside as well I mean, they're they're getting better. And Zach Allen is leading the charge.
00:46:12:17 - 00:46:16:29
CJ
Look that's a good football team a great defense. And, the numbers don't lie.
00:46:17:03 - 00:46:24:16
Big Al
Numbers don't lie to me. I mean, and that quick pressure, you know, the receivers don't have time for double moves. It's these, you see the.
00:46:24:16 - 00:46:25:02
Speaker 1
This or.
00:46:25:02 - 00:46:42:12
Big Al
That because you don't have time. That, screw around and try to run a fancy route. It's a go. It's a slant. It's a curl. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's not it's not a curl. Go. It's not a is. You don't have time to double move. The Denver Broncos, because you're going to be on the ground.
00:46:42:14 - 00:46:48:25
CJ
Gives life to the white corner. That's that's where that's, you know, that's that's the ultimate.
00:46:48:27 - 00:46:50:15
Speaker 1
No, I'm just telling you that.
00:46:50:18 - 00:46:51:13
CJ
My goodness.
00:46:51:14 - 00:46:52:15
Speaker 1
Man, I.
00:46:52:19 - 00:46:56:26
Big Al
Was secondary I thought they played good at times last week.
00:46:57:17 - 00:46:59:06
Speaker 1
You know you guys are going to catch balls.
00:46:59:06 - 00:47:06:23
Big Al
Okay? I mean, guys are going to catch balls. Is this this is the league, man. You know, it's good on good all the time. So,
00:47:06:26 - 00:47:09:27
CJ
God is good all the time. That's what you just say.
00:47:09:29 - 00:47:11:04
Speaker 1
Guys are going to catch routes.
00:47:11:08 - 00:47:20:24
CJ
Listen, not so rosy. A picture to paint from bowl to this past Saturday night. 52. Was it 5217? The score.
00:47:21:00 - 00:47:22:01
Big Al
Hey.
00:47:22:04 - 00:47:28:02
CJ
Now, in the game that I told you was a must win game. It was a must win game.
00:47:28:02 - 00:47:29:02
Speaker 1
And we had something.
00:47:29:03 - 00:47:30:14
CJ
You.
00:47:30:17 - 00:47:31:15
Speaker 1
Know I was guarding.
00:47:31:15 - 00:47:39:17
CJ
So don't be scared. I can't don't be scared now. You ain't never held your tongue before. But anyway, what.
00:47:39:17 - 00:47:43:27
Speaker 1
Else about to come out? I'm,
00:47:44:00 - 00:47:45:28
Speaker 1
Oh.
00:47:46:00 - 00:47:46:20
CJ
What? Man?
00:47:46:22 - 00:47:47:17
Speaker 1
Go ahead. Man, this.
00:47:47:17 - 00:47:50:09
CJ
Is not a laughing matter, man. This is a serious matter. Oh, man.
00:47:50:09 - 00:47:53:01
Speaker 1
I told you it wasn't a must win game.
00:47:53:04 - 00:47:53:19
CJ
A must win.
00:47:53:19 - 00:47:58:21
Speaker 1
Game. It was not a must win. We lost. What happened? What happened?
00:47:58:24 - 00:48:00:10
CJ
The fans left in the third quarter.
00:48:01:08 - 00:48:03:24
Speaker 1
Oh. That's. That's the consequence.
00:48:03:24 - 00:48:08:22
CJ
Yeah, yeah. And here I am sitting here hoping.
00:48:08:22 - 00:48:10:03
Big Al
Oh my goodness. So the.
00:48:10:03 - 00:48:11:00
Speaker 1
Fans leave in the.
00:48:11:00 - 00:48:16:11
Big Al
Third quarter. That's the that's that that's what I told you this was going to happen moment.
00:48:16:11 - 00:48:20:18
Speaker 1
I mean that was a must win. So there must have been consequences. What were the consequences.
00:48:20:18 - 00:48:22:06
CJ
I just gave you one.
00:48:22:08 - 00:48:25:18
Speaker 1
So the fans leaving after they've already paid.
00:48:25:21 - 00:48:26:29
CJ
Yeah. Yeah. The question is are they coming?
00:48:27:00 - 00:48:30:22
Speaker 1
I mean, we were in that stadium. That place was packed. It was booty, the booty.
00:48:30:29 - 00:48:45:29
CJ
Until about ten minutes left in the third quarter. And there was no listen bro, again I thought, I explain this to you. I don't have to explain it to you every damn week. Here, man. Take this. Write this down. No, write it down.
00:48:46:00 - 00:48:46:10
Speaker 1
No.
00:48:46:16 - 00:48:52:04
CJ
Because you. I got to explain it to you every week. What I mean by must win is your idea.
00:48:52:05 - 00:48:54:07
Big Al
Must win is not the same as mine.
00:48:54:09 - 00:48:56:23
CJ
What's the must win for you? Hell freezes over.
00:48:56:26 - 00:49:09:26
Speaker 1
No, man. I mean, you're playing in a game that says that if you don't win this, then you're out. So if we don't win this, then you're out. Like what happened with the Dodgers?
00:49:09:26 - 00:49:11:03
Big Al
There I.
00:49:11:03 - 00:49:11:24
Speaker 1
Go. Watch it.
00:49:11:24 - 00:49:13:23
CJ
Yeah, yeah, it was a no no no.
00:49:13:23 - 00:49:21:04
Speaker 1
No no in game six of the World Series. Whereas you don't win right now you're out. You don't get a game seven.
00:49:21:04 - 00:49:21:24
CJ
No shit.
00:49:21:24 - 00:49:41:27
Speaker 1
Sherlock. Well okay a game seven if you don't win you don't win a championship. That's a must win. Okay. You hey, in the NFL or college football for that matter. Now, if you make it to the playoffs and you don't win, you're out. That's a must win. So my definition of must win is way different than yours.
00:49:42:01 - 00:49:44:07
CJ
You had to have you had to add some context.
00:49:44:07 - 00:49:52:02
Speaker 1
No, there's no contest. There is when must win means if I don't win, my team's out of it.
00:49:52:05 - 00:49:56:02
CJ
That's not even a I mean that's that's by definition, bro. I mean, what then?
00:49:56:03 - 00:50:10:09
Speaker 1
What the hell. Why would you you why would you confuse the two? Why don't you just say this is a must? You say, hey, we'd like to win this game because if we lose, it would be like, what did we did we like Twitch? Prime is going to get fired. No, no. Okay, then what's going to happen then?
00:50:10:12 - 00:50:18:16
CJ
What happens is, once again, you begin to lose the imagination of your fan base.
00:50:18:23 - 00:50:21:21
Speaker 1
Oh, that happens every loss.
00:50:21:23 - 00:50:30:25
CJ
No, it doesn't happen at every loss. It does not happen at every loss. And every loss is an equal that. Listen man, I do not. The bottom line.
00:50:30:25 - 00:50:32:28
Speaker 1
Is this you just you just your your.
00:50:32:28 - 00:50:36:23
Big Al
Language, your language doesn't match the situation.
00:50:36:26 - 00:50:38:09
CJ
It's your ability to just comprehend.
00:50:38:12 - 00:50:40:25
Speaker 1
No, man, your language doesn't match.
00:50:40:27 - 00:50:42:20
CJ
Or have, you know, required.
00:50:42:22 - 00:50:47:28
Speaker 1
Nuance. Everybody knows what a must win is. That was not a must win game last week.
00:50:47:28 - 00:50:57:09
CJ
Captain obvious over here, a must win is game seven. A must win is when you're facing elimination. No shit. Like really like.
00:50:57:09 - 00:51:00:27
Speaker 1
That's a lose with them. What was. Why did you say it was a must wind in?
00:51:00:27 - 00:51:01:15
CJ
Because it was.
00:51:01:16 - 00:51:03:19
Speaker 1
You wouldn't want to use the terminology and not me.
00:51:03:19 - 00:51:05:27
CJ
And I've explained it to you time after time.
00:51:06:00 - 00:51:09:03
Speaker 1
It's because we don't want to lose momentum with the fan base.
00:51:09:05 - 00:51:14:21
CJ
Listen, if in fact, what you're trying to build, if you reach a.
00:51:14:21 - 00:51:20:04
Speaker 1
Point, they just say, I was wrong about my terminology and we can move on. Damn bro.
00:51:20:06 - 00:51:21:06
CJ
May I.
00:51:21:09 - 00:51:21:24
Speaker 1
Damn.
00:51:21:24 - 00:51:30:12
CJ
Bro, may I? I mean, just cannot take a shot at it. Just once again, I think most people out there understand again.
00:51:30:15 - 00:51:35:12
Speaker 1
Nobody understands what the fuck you're talking about when you're talking about. That was a must win for you.
00:51:35:12 - 00:51:37:15
CJ
Okay, listen, let's keep it moving.
00:51:37:15 - 00:51:38:24
Speaker 1
Man, okay? Let's move to another.
00:51:38:24 - 00:51:41:02
CJ
So I'm not just going to be disruptive.
00:51:41:03 - 00:51:42:15
Speaker 1
No I'm not. I'm just going to.
00:51:42:15 - 00:51:50:17
CJ
Use bad language to try to emphasize a point. I mean, you just going to do, like shy. You like a bad language. Yeah. Yeah. You like I've.
00:51:50:18 - 00:52:08:15
Speaker 1
Explained this all day Saturday, bro. I told you this all day Saturday. Stop using that language. And once again today I'd say stop using that language like it means something to anybody. It means nothing to nobody. Because nothing's going to happen at the University of Colorado.
00:52:08:17 - 00:52:39:12
CJ
Okay, let me ask you. This man. Unbelievable. Where does this loss the second consecutive blow for the Q buffs stunned back a week ago at Utah. And then at home against the Arizona team that we were at least evenly matched up with. I thought, you lose 5217. Where does this leave our Colorado Buffaloes at this point? How you explain it to everybody because you're not the ass and you get all the answers.
00:52:39:18 - 00:52:41:22
CJ
So go ahead and explain.
00:52:41:24 - 00:52:49:00
Big Al
Where this loss leaves us. Is in a soul searching situation.
00:52:49:02 - 00:52:51:20
CJ
So to use your s words.
00:52:51:22 - 00:52:53:04
Speaker 1
This one you got plenty more than.
00:52:53:04 - 00:52:54:06
CJ
You.
00:52:54:09 - 00:52:56:05
Speaker 1
But I think that.
00:52:56:07 - 00:53:06:12
Big Al
Because the University of Colorado has been thoroughly embarrassed this last two weeks to me it's signals that Dion has lost the team.
00:53:06:15 - 00:53:07:19
CJ
Now,
00:53:07:22 - 00:53:09:13
Big Al
That is a strong statement.
00:53:09:13 - 00:53:11:23
Speaker 1
And what that usually means.
00:53:11:25 - 00:53:27:29
Big Al
Is that guys have checked out and, the last two weeks it looked like guys have checked out. Have they really checked out? I don't know. We're going to find out, next week when they go to West Virginia.
00:53:27:29 - 00:53:29:08
CJ
But that a must win game.
00:53:29:11 - 00:53:34:08
Big Al
And, but this is this is, you know.
00:53:34:10 - 00:53:35:25
Speaker 1
You can always and this and.
00:53:35:27 - 00:54:09:09
Big Al
This, this you could take to the bank, okay? You can always tell when a defense is ready to play by how well they tackle. You can always tell how well a defense plays by, how they line up and, intent on getting to the football, how they look. Kidnaped last week on one of the opening plays, long touchdown player runs and, and he's, a little bit of, jitterbug out there.
00:54:09:09 - 00:54:28:18
Big Al
And catches the receiver screen and makes like, three guys miss, miss and take it to the house. And I said last week, man got to play zone. And just keep the ball in front of you. And it looked like that was a situation where we had zone that missed tackle miss. It's because I don't believe guys know where they're supposed to be.
00:54:28:18 - 00:54:45:12
Big Al
If you know where you're supposed to be and you can break down and you can get there quickly with intent, then I think you play good defense. But the way that they looked last week, it looked like we were confused. It looked like it was awkward. And of course the turnovers early on the offense was just it was bad.
00:54:47:18 - 00:55:02:05
Big Al
In the in it was embarrassing is what it was. And that's not that's not the the game that neither one of those seniors want to put on tape and say, this is my time playing here in Folsom.
00:55:02:07 - 00:55:12:06
CJ
No, it was it was a bad game. And see, you can't sustain. It's not a team that's good enough to overcome mistakes, miscues, turnovers
00:55:12:09 - 00:55:18:28
Speaker 1
And and bad at it. And you know, at times it looked like the referees are just not on. See you.
00:55:18:28 - 00:55:23:27
Big Al
Side. I don't know I, I'm of course I'm a fan of the University of Colorado.
00:55:24:00 - 00:55:28:20
Speaker 1
But man some some of the calls that we get.
00:55:28:23 - 00:55:31:16
Big Al
Against us man I just.
00:55:31:18 - 00:55:33:24
Speaker 1
You know, they just.
00:55:33:27 - 00:55:34:19
CJ
You know.
00:55:34:22 - 00:55:38:12
Speaker 1
It just feels shitty. I mean, I'm like everything watching.
00:55:38:14 - 00:55:39:05
CJ
Everything does.
00:55:39:05 - 00:55:53:22
Speaker 1
When you go, wow, man. Like what? Oh, no. You calling them for being, you know, I think you get two yards past the Lions. You call him for being two and a half yards across the line of scrimmage. I'm like, oh come on.
00:55:53:27 - 00:56:04:01
CJ
Yeah. Like, here is what I tell you, man. You are focused on the wrong thing. I know that that hurts you a little bit, but when you get beat 5217.
00:56:04:04 - 00:56:06:13
Speaker 1
I think it's usually how it starts in the beginning.
00:56:06:14 - 00:56:15:03
CJ
Well, I mean, but I mean before before the game started, it was seven zip. It just again, just like the week before, I didn't even get, you know, settled.
00:56:15:03 - 00:56:15:10
Speaker 1
In the.
00:56:15:16 - 00:56:16:07
CJ
I didn't get seven. Yeah.
00:56:16:07 - 00:56:17:20
Speaker 1
We settled in our seats.
00:56:17:20 - 00:56:21:15
CJ
That's exactly right. Now here's what I tell you. I do I do wonder. Well, once.
00:56:21:15 - 00:56:32:09
Speaker 1
Again, bad tackling. Like like why can't you get the guy on the ground like this? Get him on the ground. Oh, wait. What do we.
00:56:32:12 - 00:56:33:06
Speaker 1
Okay.
00:56:33:09 - 00:56:34:10
CJ
Yeah yeah.
00:56:34:13 - 00:56:35:25
Big Al
Yeah yeah. Okay. Yeah.
00:56:36:01 - 00:56:52:02
CJ
All right. Well, again, it was, something's going on in that locker room, and it's interesting to hear coach Prime talk about what's happening with this team, how well they're preparing. And it's not translating out to the field. That's a neck up deal. Something's happening where.
00:56:52:06 - 00:56:52:29
Speaker 1
There's a losing battle.
00:56:52:29 - 00:56:53:23
Big Al
The coaching staff.
00:56:53:23 - 00:56:57:12
CJ
Well, you mentioned did he lose the locker room if they're disillusioned.
00:56:57:14 - 00:56:58:18
Speaker 1
Disillusioned as.
00:56:58:18 - 00:57:00:22
Big Al
A coaching staff telling you right now coaching.
00:57:00:22 - 00:57:01:19
CJ
Staff, is this a solution?
00:57:01:19 - 00:57:08:06
Big Al
Yes. Because if you you know, if you are a well coached defense.
00:57:08:08 - 00:57:11:08
Speaker 1
Okay. If you're a well coached defense, you should be able to.
00:57:11:08 - 00:57:16:09
Big Al
Say, hey, we're going to play cover two all day. These are throws that they get against us.
00:57:16:11 - 00:57:16:25
CJ
Oh hold on, hold.
00:57:16:25 - 00:57:19:13
Speaker 1
On, hold on. Let me take let me let me finish my damn thought. Here.
00:57:19:13 - 00:57:20:07
Big Al
Okay.
00:57:20:09 - 00:57:25:20
Speaker 1
This could be okay. I'm I'm going to say you get you get to play three defenses.
00:57:25:20 - 00:57:27:28
Big Al
We're going to play cover two. We'll play cover.
00:57:27:28 - 00:57:45:19
Speaker 1
Three. We can play quarters. Right. And you say, hey, if you if they hit us on this play, we're going to let that be like, that's been my that's been my football education. But when you play man, if you play man and you bring pressure C.J. When you play man and you.
00:57:45:19 - 00:57:46:28
Big Al
Bring pressure.
00:57:47:00 - 00:57:49:03
Speaker 1
And you miss gap responsibility.
00:57:49:03 - 00:57:49:18
Big Al
In the run.
00:57:49:18 - 00:58:15:13
Speaker 1
Game, it's over. Yeah okay. You play man and you miss a tackle. It's over. You play man and there's a pick or screenplay and you get outflanked or a guy missed a tackle. It's over. Yeah. You see, I'm saying. Yeah. So I'm trying to figure out on these calls. Are we or are we that bad on defense where we can't just play two, three and four?
00:58:15:15 - 00:58:25:02
Speaker 1
Or do we are we are are we disillusion and are we playing man and thinking that we have the personnel to do that?
00:58:25:02 - 00:58:34:16
CJ
So you're saying that. So I just want to get your definition of disillusion. Are you saying that they they don't know what they're doing as it relates to their personnel. Like what? Yeah.
00:58:34:16 - 00:58:44:17
Speaker 1
When you see I mean, I think offensively we're disillusioned thinking that we can drop back at the beginning of the year, have our quarterback.
00:58:44:20 - 00:58:45:25
CJ
This is just bad coaching.
00:58:46:01 - 00:58:50:09
Big Al
I think it's bad coaching. Okay. So there you go. Okay. You want me to say anything else is.
00:58:50:09 - 00:58:53:18
CJ
No I was just trying to I didn't understand disillusioned.
00:58:53:18 - 00:58:54:26
Speaker 1
Like disillusioned like.
00:58:54:26 - 00:59:02:05
CJ
Their their head. They're hanging their heads because they don't see what's going on, or they just think they have something that the rest of the world can see. They don't have.
00:59:02:09 - 00:59:03:07
Speaker 1
Clearly.
00:59:03:07 - 00:59:05:22
Big Al
Clearly early on offensively.
00:59:05:24 - 00:59:06:05
CJ
Well, the.
00:59:06:05 - 00:59:06:22
Speaker 1
News they.
00:59:06:22 - 00:59:18:15
CJ
Know the news coming out of Boulder today was and we we got some, I think some, footage of Prime talking about the big change, the big news coming out of that defeat against, Arizona.
00:59:18:18 - 00:59:36:02
Speaker 1
Freshman versus freshman. We had a freshman is going to start for us. He's good. He's doing a heck out of the ball. But he's a young kid. We're going to make young kids mistakes. But he's up to the stat to get him prepared to get him ready. So he could be concise and precise. He has to make quick reads and get the ball out of their run when, he feels pressure and just be himself.
00:59:36:04 - 00:59:37:24
Speaker 1
Just do what you've been doing your whole life.
00:59:38:04 - 00:59:38:12
CJ
I don't.
00:59:38:12 - 00:59:41:14
Speaker 1
Talk about being. I don't want to do that. The good things that he got the ball.
00:59:41:14 - 00:59:41:29
CJ
Out.
00:59:42:01 - 00:59:59:23
Speaker 1
In certain situations, he saw what was coming, what was happening. He received information and tried to apply it. What he was receiving through the headset, which he did a good job about that. And he was, more talkative to his teammates. What I mean by that is you got to communicate with your linemen, your backs, you receivers.
00:59:59:23 - 01:00:02:02
Speaker 1
You got to let them know that you're there, you in command.
01:00:02:02 - 01:00:03:07
CJ
You're in control in,
01:00:03:13 - 01:00:06:12
Speaker 1
Because they're looking for leadership.
01:00:06:14 - 01:00:16:08
CJ
Of course. Coach Prime, they're talking about the big news coming out of Boulder. The five star quarterback recruit, Juju Lewis. Now, the starter for. See you at.
01:00:16:13 - 01:00:17:13
Speaker 1
How many more games.
01:00:17:13 - 01:00:19:04
CJ
This week? There's three games left.
01:00:19:09 - 01:00:23:11
Speaker 1
I mean, but but are we burning I mean we well how many he gets to use for games.
01:00:23:11 - 01:00:24:18
CJ
Or to use for games.
01:00:24:19 - 01:00:26:10
Speaker 1
This is game three.
01:00:26:13 - 01:00:38:09
CJ
This is game three. So you can technically play him. Then you can start him in next two games without threaten his red shirt. But here's my thing. To hell with the red shirt. A red shirt is invaluable today.
01:00:38:09 - 01:00:40:29
Speaker 1
Like it is when you are a 17 year old guy entering.
01:00:40:29 - 01:00:41:13
Big Al
College.
01:00:41:13 - 01:00:56:27
CJ
Right? But here's the thing. That's a lot of time to play football. This has already been a redshirt year for him. He got here early. He was here through the summer. He's been on the team for most of the year. He's had a redshirt year.
01:00:57:00 - 01:00:57:13
Speaker 1
You know what.
01:00:57:13 - 01:01:07:23
Big Al
This is black. You know what this is? This is saying essentially would done what I was starting quarterback.
01:01:07:24 - 01:01:12:15
CJ
Well no what it's saying is this is the beginning of the 2026 right?
01:01:12:20 - 01:01:13:15
Speaker 1
Right. This is our.
01:01:13:15 - 01:01:14:23
Big Al
Ball game going forward.
01:01:14:24 - 01:01:24:28
CJ
Which is why last week was a must win for the season, for the for the mindset of this coaching staff and this. Oh no, no, the 2026 season has.
01:01:25:00 - 01:01:30:12
Speaker 1
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. That's where I was coming back next year. Offensive coordinator.
01:01:30:14 - 01:01:31:03
CJ
No.
01:01:31:06 - 01:01:32:06
Speaker 1
Okay. Well.
01:01:32:08 - 01:01:33:21
CJ
This no, this.
01:01:33:23 - 01:01:42:29
Speaker 1
Is not the start of the 2026 offensive season. It's a guy gets experience, but he's probably not in the same offense, probably different terminology.
01:01:43:01 - 01:01:45:21
CJ
This is the begin. This is turning the page. What the.
01:01:45:21 - 01:01:49:15
Speaker 1
Hell? I'm like what? What? Listen, man, you.
01:01:49:15 - 01:01:51:01
CJ
Know, did you just come here to argue today?
01:01:51:02 - 01:02:00:10
Speaker 1
No, man. I'm just trying to tell you that this is this is this is unsustainable. This this concept that we've had at the quarterback.
01:02:00:10 - 01:02:02:12
Big Al
Position this year. You just.
01:02:02:14 - 01:02:06:18
CJ
You know, bro, don't listen. It's not that this is this isn't that difficult.
01:02:06:19 - 01:02:06:28
Speaker 1
Yes.
01:02:07:01 - 01:02:32:05
CJ
You came into the season. You lost your all everything quarterback to the NFL. You come into the season, you didn't have anyone on your roster from a year ago that was going to continue with any kind of continuity at the quarterback position. So you go out and you rent a quarterback and you're betting on or at least hoping that the rent a quarterback is going to be the guy that's going to at least stabilize you around a quarterback.
01:02:32:07 - 01:02:34:07
CJ
Caden Salter okay.
01:02:34:09 - 01:02:38:28
Speaker 1
He's a juju was the rental. I mean, I mean, it may work out with juju. Is the rent a quarterback?
01:02:39:01 - 01:02:39:08
CJ
No.
01:02:39:10 - 01:02:41:06
Speaker 1
He may be playing for somebody else next year.
01:02:41:07 - 01:02:46:12
CJ
Which is another reason why the red shirt means absolutely nothing in this day and age. So dude, you.
01:02:46:12 - 01:02:46:25
Speaker 1
Cannot.
01:02:46:25 - 01:02:48:11
Big Al
Burn that redshirt on this.
01:02:48:11 - 01:02:49:16
Speaker 1
Crappy season.
01:02:49:23 - 01:02:52:02
CJ
I think. What's the point of holding a red shirt, man?
01:02:52:08 - 01:02:53:12
Speaker 1
Listen, man, listen.
01:02:53:12 - 01:02:54:28
Big Al
Do listen.
01:02:55:00 - 01:02:59:16
Speaker 1
Let him play his two more games. Let him start to. And then on senior.
01:02:59:16 - 01:03:01:05
Big Al
Day that, sort of play.
01:03:01:05 - 01:03:06:00
Speaker 1
Again and call it good because you don't want that kid.
01:03:06:00 - 01:03:10:00
Big Al
To burn that opportunity to have, fifth.
01:03:10:00 - 01:03:13:00
Speaker 1
Year. I think Bo Nix actually got six years.
01:03:13:00 - 01:03:14:16
CJ
Bo Nix got six years. But I think that.
01:03:14:16 - 01:03:21:01
Speaker 1
I'm just saying. But that's what I'm saying. So. So you do believe that the longer that you have eligibility and that you.
01:03:21:01 - 01:03:23:00
Big Al
Can play it better as the kid.
01:03:23:06 - 01:03:24:18
CJ
Listen. Now, listen.
01:03:24:20 - 01:03:31:00
Speaker 1
I know it's not what Siu wants to hear because they know that every other kid is is healthy.
01:03:31:00 - 01:03:36:06
CJ
There is zero value. And this kid on this team.
01:03:36:09 - 01:03:37:19
Speaker 1
The you you're ridiculous.
01:03:37:19 - 01:03:38:27
CJ
You know it's zero value.
01:03:38:29 - 01:03:47:14
Speaker 1
Sometime. Sometimes I don't know what the fuck you thinking about. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm sitting here actually listening to you saying that if you don't need.
01:03:47:14 - 01:03:48:07
CJ
To do that more often.
01:03:48:09 - 01:03:56:05
Speaker 1
No, no, no, you just said if this kid plays three games, it does the three out of the next four.
01:03:56:05 - 01:03:57:22
CJ
Game, there's three games left.
01:03:57:24 - 01:03:59:26
Speaker 1
So there's West Virginia. And then we got.
01:04:00:08 - 01:04:01:14
CJ
Kansas State I think, okay, he's.
01:04:01:14 - 01:04:12:02
Speaker 1
Got three games. So if he plays in two, he gets to play four more years versus if he if he plays three, he gets to play three more years.
01:04:12:02 - 01:04:13:01
CJ
That's not what that mean.
01:04:13:02 - 01:04:17:08
Speaker 1
That's exactly what it means. That's exactly what it mean.
01:04:17:08 - 01:04:18:28
CJ
Look, look out here.
01:04:18:28 - 01:04:22:23
Speaker 1
That's C.J.. C.J., what does it mean to burn a red shirt?
01:04:22:29 - 01:04:25:16
CJ
Then you're right that Richard is gone. Mike, you were.
01:04:25:16 - 01:04:27:28
Speaker 1
Burning a red shirt of a one man game.
01:04:27:28 - 01:04:29:07
CJ
My question to you.
01:04:29:07 - 01:04:30:29
Speaker 1
You would do that?
01:04:31:01 - 01:04:36:12
CJ
So now, Snoop, let me ask you the question, okay? The answer to your question is simply, we're.
01:04:36:12 - 01:04:47:05
Speaker 1
Not playing for a conference championship. We're not playing for a chance to get in the playoffs for that one game. The answer in that kid's freshman, redshirt year over one more game to play.
01:04:47:06 - 01:04:49:05
CJ
How many more times are you going to ask the same thing?
01:04:49:05 - 01:04:50:23
Speaker 1
Okay. Go ahead Dan, go ahead. Answer.
01:04:50:23 - 01:05:21:14
CJ
Then the answer is absolutely yes. And the reason why I have no issue with burning Juju Lewis's redshirt year that you covets so, so incredibly is because I have to know what I have. I have to get my quarterback ready for a 2026 season. And by the way, what is the purpose of a redshirt year in a college football landscape where every player is a free agent every year?
01:05:21:19 - 01:05:28:12
CJ
You made the point a second ago. He could very well be somewhere else next year. So you preserve the rest, sir.
01:05:28:22 - 01:05:28:25
Speaker 1
Let.
01:05:28:25 - 01:05:29:11
CJ
Me let.
01:05:29:11 - 01:05:30:04
Speaker 1
Me go ahead. Go ahead.
01:05:30:05 - 01:05:35:23
CJ
You preserved a redshirt for a guy who who's not even on your roster. Like, what is the point of that?
01:05:35:24 - 01:05:37:02
Speaker 1
Oh, so fuck him.
01:05:37:05 - 01:05:38:08
CJ
No, it's not about.
01:05:38:11 - 01:05:47:22
Speaker 1
Yeah, that's what it is. It's so fuck him. You go ahead and let him burn his redshirt year because you don't care about what happens to him after the end of this year.
01:05:47:22 - 01:05:52:11
CJ
I'm a I'm a I'm I'm gonna stop referring to you like Mama Alford junior. Listen.
01:05:52:14 - 01:06:15:17
Speaker 1
Listen, man, that is. Man. If if I'm juju. If I'm Juju's mother, father, uncle. If I'm his coach. Head coach from pop Warner, if I'm his head coach from high school, if I'm position coach from high school, I'm telling that kid, whatever you do, don't burn that year. Well, I hope that the University of Colorado. Why is thinking the exact same thing.
01:06:15:17 - 01:06:23:26
Speaker 1
Why? Because one game, you get one game to improve on your skill set versus on a whole nother season.
01:06:23:26 - 01:06:27:04
CJ
So you're projecting that this kid, this five star great quarterback.
01:06:27:05 - 01:06:31:03
Speaker 1
I don't care for Colorado or for another team. You just don't burn it like that.
01:06:31:03 - 01:06:36:08
CJ
Oh, this program has to do what's right for the program.
01:06:36:08 - 01:06:36:27
Speaker 1
Okay, man.
01:06:36:27 - 01:06:38:28
CJ
And I'ma tell you at this.
01:06:38:28 - 01:06:40:26
Speaker 1
Point I'm so disappointed.
01:06:40:26 - 01:06:45:16
CJ
I am playing. I'm giving him as much time and experience as I possibly can.
01:06:45:17 - 01:06:46:09
Speaker 1
Go out of your mind.
01:06:46:26 - 01:06:52:01
Speaker 1
You're out of your mind. I mean, you you just. Man, I thought you were a player.
01:06:52:01 - 01:06:53:29
Big Al
First kind of guy.
01:06:54:01 - 01:07:03:12
Speaker 1
But clearly. Clearly you. I'm a clearly you are a management guy. I'm a management guy. You are. You are all about the management. You know that. You know what?
01:07:03:18 - 01:07:04:14
CJ
I'm a team first guy.
01:07:04:16 - 01:07:05:28
Speaker 1
No, no, you're not,
01:07:06:01 - 01:07:06:22
Big Al
You're not you're.
01:07:06:25 - 01:07:10:06
Speaker 1
I thought you were a players kind of guy. You know what? You are not a player.
01:07:10:08 - 01:07:11:01
CJ
Like this from you.
01:07:11:02 - 01:07:12:17
Speaker 1
Well, I'm just. I'm not gonna take this.
01:07:12:18 - 01:07:19:04
CJ
You take that back. I'm not taking the damn thing back. You and a guy, when somebody stepped on your bunions, you quit. You walked right.
01:07:19:04 - 01:07:20:05
Speaker 1
Out of play.
01:07:20:07 - 01:07:22:06
CJ
You would not practice, practice.
01:07:22:08 - 01:07:22:24
Speaker 1
Practice.
01:07:23:00 - 01:07:30:18
CJ
That's what I do. And my bunions get stepped on all the time, and I never quit. I'm a team guy. That's what I am.
01:07:30:20 - 01:07:40:18
Speaker 1
That's what I know. That's all I want to hear. That's credible analogy about what's happening here with the guy. Hey man, we've got to play two more games. This bottom line, we've.
01:07:40:18 - 01:07:41:06
CJ
Gotten beaten.
01:07:41:06 - 01:07:43:10
Speaker 1
Women. I think we, you know, hold on.
01:07:43:10 - 01:08:03:08
CJ
We've gotten beaten by at least two freshman quarterbacks. Oh, and Bill and Brigham Young University and at Utah, neither one of them are bellyaching about, oh, we can't burn this red shirt. You got to be kidding me. You put the best player out there, you got a five Brockmire. You have a greater hold on.
01:08:03:08 - 01:08:07:03
Speaker 1
Brockmire. Brockmire has been the starter since day one.
01:08:07:03 - 01:08:07:24
CJ
Okay? He's a.
01:08:07:24 - 01:08:11:27
Speaker 1
Freshman. Okay, so? So if he's a day one freshman. Sorry.
01:08:11:28 - 01:08:17:29
CJ
Doesn't the first guess who wasn't a starter since day one? The kid who scored 50 plus points against this, at Utah.
01:08:18:04 - 01:08:27:09
Speaker 1
I guarantee you they will burn his. I guarantee you I guarantee you if the starters healthy and, the after the four weeks that kid is done.
01:08:27:15 - 01:08:28:10
CJ
The problem is.
01:08:28:10 - 01:08:29:15
Speaker 1
Out. That kid is done.
01:08:29:15 - 01:08:30:23
CJ
Our starters aren't.
01:08:30:23 - 01:08:33:15
Speaker 1
Helpful. I'm just telling you. Oh, cadence also is not here.
01:08:33:15 - 01:08:36:20
CJ
You're not healthy. Meaning they're not.
01:08:36:22 - 01:08:38:29
Speaker 1
You know, not healthy.
01:08:38:29 - 01:08:43:22
CJ
That Caden Salter is not healthy as a guy that his team has a confidence in. Oh, I.
01:08:43:23 - 01:08:48:08
Speaker 1
Give you a chance to win. Now you define this one. Now you redefining what healthy is.
01:08:48:08 - 01:08:50:10
CJ
I am sending my team out with the best.
01:08:50:11 - 01:08:52:25
Speaker 1
Some weak man that's so weak, bro. I mean.
01:08:52:26 - 01:08:54:14
CJ
Hey, man, talk to the hand.
01:08:54:17 - 01:09:14:26
Speaker 1
That's so weak, man. Talking about it. He's not healthy because his team doesn't believe in them. I'm not the definition of healthy. Bro uses a hamstring. It's a knee. It's the shoulders ACL joint. It's an ankle. It's a high sprain. You're saying healthy as a mindset. He's because he doesn't communicate with his team like that. Yeah you know so he's not healthy.
01:09:14:29 - 01:09:28:05
Speaker 1
He's not healthy mentally. Yeah man fuck that. You know I'm just telling you I'm telling you why. Because healthy means that I don't have the ability to play because of injury. Okay.
01:09:28:05 - 01:09:30:28
CJ
So you're saying physical health is the only health that one should consume?
01:09:30:28 - 01:09:35:22
Speaker 1
Unless a guy is struggling mentally to the to put. You know.
01:09:35:22 - 01:09:50:19
CJ
If I were to tell you, well, here's our choice team. We got a guy that we know none of you have confidence in. In fact, I don't even think he has confidence in self. But we're going to call him your leader and he's going to lead the charge. Oh, we have another guy over here who we think is going to be outstanding.
01:09:50:26 - 01:10:03:20
CJ
And all we have to do is give him time to go out and get reps in play, which like you go on about this, the reason why last week was just hold on, hold on. The reason why last week was such a.
01:10:03:20 - 01:10:04:25
Speaker 1
Much I don't understand.
01:10:04:25 - 01:10:05:19
CJ
Is because we.
01:10:05:19 - 01:10:12:28
Speaker 1
Don't even I don't even know what must win means. I don't even know what must win means Amen.
01:10:12:28 - 01:10:13:09
CJ
I'm winning.
01:10:13:10 - 01:10:14:20
Speaker 1
You don't even know what must win.
01:10:14:20 - 01:10:32:01
CJ
Loss at West Virginia this weekend. And again, I don't even. There are no more must win games on the schedule. I want the bus to win each of the last three, but when I'm more interested in now, like all bus fans, is getting a good look at our future. And our future is in this kid.
01:10:32:01 - 01:10:33:26
Speaker 1
Yeah, two games. We have.
01:10:33:26 - 01:10:37:07
CJ
An opportunity to watch this kid do his thing and I'm.
01:10:37:07 - 01:10:44:26
Speaker 1
Excited and saw this. I said last game Kane saw to start that last game on Senior Day, okay? He starts that last game.
01:10:44:26 - 01:10:46:05
Big Al
On Senior day okay.
01:10:46:05 - 01:10:47:25
CJ
This is his third go around. It being.
01:10:47:25 - 01:10:51:10
Speaker 1
A well, whatever it is, this is his last chance to.
01:10:51:10 - 01:10:54:22
Big Al
Be a starter for the University of Colorado. On that last game.
01:10:54:22 - 01:10:57:07
Speaker 1
I don't want to hear nothing about burning.
01:10:57:17 - 01:10:59:03
Big Al
Redshirt for a.
01:10:59:10 - 01:11:02:04
Speaker 1
Meaningless 12th game of the.
01:11:02:04 - 01:11:03:28
Big Al
Season. I don't want to hear the shit.
01:11:04:00 - 01:11:05:04
Speaker 1
So don't fucking do it.
01:11:05:04 - 01:11:08:15
CJ
This is amazing. So had he started the first four games, you would say, don't play.
01:11:08:18 - 01:11:12:16
Speaker 1
If you were to start in the first four games and he would have look decent. I would tell you.
01:11:12:19 - 01:11:16:21
CJ
What, if you like, but like a lot of freshmen do, would you say don't play him anymore.
01:11:16:24 - 01:11:18:14
Speaker 1
Yeah. Because he's not ready.
01:11:18:17 - 01:11:22:15
CJ
Yes. But yeah you don't come in necessarily ready. You you you grow to.
01:11:22:20 - 01:11:27:21
Speaker 1
You know, you you ask me a question. If he struggled early on in the first four games.
01:11:27:21 - 01:11:30:24
CJ
You went so. So you would expect the freshman to come in and just.
01:11:30:24 - 01:11:33:19
Speaker 1
No I don't I don't. But you ask me a hypothetical.
01:11:33:20 - 01:11:37:04
CJ
Because, you see, you're coveting this redshirt as if as if it's.
01:11:37:04 - 01:11:40:04
Speaker 1
The end of this year doesn't count. So for him, if.
01:11:40:04 - 01:11:48:01
CJ
You play the first four games, you're going to say, man, you. If we play in the fifth game, it's going to burn your redshirt. So we're not going to play you.
01:11:48:01 - 01:11:51:10
Speaker 1
That's right. Or you if he if you don't.
01:11:51:10 - 01:11:52:21
CJ
Use this wait.
01:11:52:24 - 01:11:54:14
Speaker 1
Hold on, hold on man I love you like a baby.
01:11:54:20 - 01:11:56:19
CJ
That's just flat out duh.
01:11:56:23 - 01:12:07:00
Speaker 1
Hey, hey, listen, listen, if he wins the quarterback competition coming out of of, of summer ball, he's your starter. That's different.
01:12:07:01 - 01:12:09:07
CJ
What if it doesn't go well? What if it's a slow start? Hold on.
01:12:09:07 - 01:12:15:21
Speaker 1
Hold on, hold on. If he wins the quarterback competition coming out of a summer ball, he's your starter.
01:12:15:22 - 01:12:16:11
CJ
So let me ask you this.
01:12:16:12 - 01:12:17:05
Speaker 1
You have with that.
01:12:17:05 - 01:12:23:09
CJ
Guy, he goes out and plays well these next two games. Do you start him in the final game? No, that's just ridiculous. Anyway man.
01:12:23:09 - 01:12:36:13
Speaker 1
Nobody believes you. Nobody believes you. You're doing this shit for television or the internet. I mean, nobody believe you don't believe him. You don't believe if you are University of Colorado football fan or college football fan, you don't believe that shit he's saying either.
01:12:36:15 - 01:12:52:00
CJ
Let's take a poll. Who out there believes that we should not play this kid in order to preserve his red shirt? Versus the people who say, look, we seen what we've had in the other quarterbacks. Our future is right here. We're not playing for anything this season other than.
01:12:52:07 - 01:12:52:29
Speaker 1
Burning.
01:12:53:02 - 01:13:14:10
CJ
Cars. Whether it reflects the red shirt is he is our future. You worried about what happens four years from five years from now when fans are worried about what's happening this year? Your problem is, is your head is way off in 2029, 2028. Who gives a damn? The can't make the if the if it goes as planned. He's a three year guy.
01:13:14:10 - 01:13:22:07
Speaker 1
I'm telling you right now. Today I tell you. I'm telling you right now if if I am giving this kid council, if I'm giving this kid council.
01:13:22:08 - 01:13:23:06
Big Al
Okay.
01:13:23:08 - 01:13:43:25
Speaker 1
Thank God. If the University of Colorado says to him that he's going to play more than two of the next three games, meaning he would play three of three, I'm telling you, that kid's going to be in the transfer portal after two games. You put put enough on tape and just tell him, hey, I hurt my hamstring. I'm not playing in that last game.
01:13:43:25 - 01:13:44:28
CJ
That's ridiculous.
01:13:45:01 - 01:13:47:01
Speaker 1
That's ridiculous. Seems to work for LeBron James.
01:13:47:01 - 01:13:49:00
CJ
That's I have no idea what that means.
01:13:49:00 - 01:13:54:15
Speaker 1
But that I mean that's that's me. You may have to you may have to figure injury for a little while until you get what you want.
01:13:54:16 - 01:13:58:16
CJ
Look, man. You you get me? I don't have any.
01:13:58:16 - 01:14:02:21
Speaker 1
And no, you don't, you don't you you don't have a you don't have a coherent thought.
01:14:02:23 - 01:14:05:20
CJ
Here's a coherent question there, because I'm gonna get off this subject because you get.
01:14:05:21 - 01:14:08:24
Speaker 1
No, because it's dumb.
01:14:08:26 - 01:14:10:29
Speaker 1
I mean, you know better than this shit, TJ.
01:14:11:02 - 01:14:11:11
CJ
I have. No.
01:14:11:13 - 01:14:19:10
Speaker 1
Why are you doing this? You're doing it. You're doing it because we on the internet. I think you're doing it because you're on the podcast. I think you don't. You don't believe. I don't believe that.
01:14:19:15 - 01:14:22:16
CJ
This is not even a close call to me, man. It's not even a close call.
01:14:22:16 - 01:14:36:09
Speaker 1
Are you? In your heart? In your heart? Seriously? It's not even close to your heart. Look at that camera right there in the two shot. Right here, right there. Look at that camera right now and say that this is what I truly believe.
01:14:36:11 - 01:14:55:07
CJ
This is absolutely what I truly believe. And I have no, I, I no idea what dumb ass right here. Can't figure it out. Who cares what happens 4 or 5 years from now? Everyone's a free agent every year. You can't plan it out. This isn't 35 years ago. This is a year to year environment we're in in college football.
01:14:55:08 - 01:15:02:29
CJ
What am I preserving a year that it's not? It's probably less than a 20% chance that a redshirt year even factors in for this kid.
01:15:03:02 - 01:15:22:12
Speaker 1
You mean that for the University of Colorado? Why am I you mean for the University of Colorado? He means for the University of Colorado, not for the kid. Oh, so the University of Colorado, because that's what a bo nix what a redshirt. It okay if it if Bo Nix would have burnt his redshirt he wouldn't have got that last year Oregon to play.
01:15:22:15 - 01:15:25:11
CJ
Oh my God this kid is 17.
01:15:25:15 - 01:15:30:07
Speaker 1
That's right. He shouldn't you know he should be a C. He should be going to his high school prom this year.
01:15:30:07 - 01:15:31:25
CJ
But he but he wears a c u football.
01:15:31:26 - 01:15:43:11
Speaker 1
Yeah. So it's okay if you start his cycle next year when he's had an extra year of college under his belt and he's got a fresh start and a new offensive coordinator.
01:15:43:14 - 01:15:46:01
CJ
Can I ask you a question? Off topic.
01:15:46:04 - 01:15:46:25
Speaker 1
You always do.
01:15:46:26 - 01:16:02:14
CJ
So can I, because you you you've you done on this. You're done. You're done on this topic is college and it's relevant. It's relevant to the conversation we just had. Is college football better off today than it was 35 years? Absolutely.
01:16:02:16 - 01:16:03:25
Speaker 1
Absolutely. It's better.
01:16:03:25 - 01:16:04:11
CJ
Off today.
01:16:04:12 - 01:16:08:16
Speaker 1
Absolutely. There are nine. There are nine Division one.
01:16:08:16 - 01:16:10:20
Big Al
Programs looking for new head coaches right.
01:16:10:20 - 01:16:12:20
Speaker 1
Now. Nine Division one.
01:16:12:22 - 01:16:15:18
Big Al
College is looking for a new head coaches right now.
01:16:15:25 - 01:16:25:13
Speaker 1
And the reason that they're looking for new head coaches is because they believe that they have invested enough money in the program, and you have not return.
01:16:25:16 - 01:16:26:26
Big Al
On our investment.
01:16:26:29 - 01:16:29:25
Speaker 1
This is the first time that we've seen this kind of.
01:16:30:24 - 01:16:33:03
Big Al
This kind of, active.
01:16:33:13 - 01:16:55:22
Speaker 1
Management for, head coaches in powerful divisions in the history of college football. I mean, we're talking about, you know, most of these teams have had 4 or 5 games ago. Come on, man, this is this is ridiculous right now. Wait wait wait, I love this. I love this because the pressure goes right back to where it's supposed to be.
01:16:55:29 - 01:17:03:17
Speaker 1
You're supposed to win because we gave you the money. We gave you the players and you still haven't produced. Get your ass out of here. I love.
01:17:03:17 - 01:17:04:07
Big Al
College football.
01:17:04:07 - 01:17:08:22
Speaker 1
Now it mocks the NFL. As I say, it rivals the.
01:17:08:22 - 01:17:11:28
Big Al
NFL, NFL.
01:17:12:01 - 01:17:17:24
CJ
Didn't you just make the opposite argument? A couple of weeks ago when the Penn State coach was fired?
01:17:17:26 - 01:17:40:26
Speaker 1
You know what? He was fired because of some bad in the end of games. I love the fact that James, frankly, turned the entire university around and you didn't give him enough time, or enough credit for what he had done. You know, I do, I do I do believe that James Franklin was fired. It was a bad firing.
01:17:40:26 - 01:17:42:11
CJ
You know what I've learned over the course.
01:17:42:11 - 01:17:44:17
Speaker 1
Of everybody who's around college football believe that.
01:17:44:17 - 01:17:47:14
Big Al
James Franklin was a bad firing.
01:17:47:16 - 01:17:48:21
Speaker 1
You know, everybody else. You know.
01:17:48:21 - 01:17:49:06
CJ
What I've learned.
01:17:49:06 - 01:17:56:21
Speaker 1
About everybody who believes that college football, fired all the right coaches, all at the right time.
01:17:56:23 - 01:18:22:03
CJ
What I've learned about you, and I've known this for a while, but it's in it's in high definition. Now, if you just give yourself. If I just give you enough time, you are the best arguer against you. You will eventually argue the counterpoint against the one you previously made, and you just did so successfully. You said it's the best because college coaches are getting fired.
01:18:22:06 - 01:18:24:06
CJ
Two weeks ago you said, well, Shane.
01:18:24:07 - 01:18:39:00
Speaker 1
I said that this college coaches got fired. This college coach shouldn't have gotten fired for the job that he had done. That led a dysfunctional, university out of the darkness and into the light.
01:18:39:00 - 01:18:41:02
CJ
Can we stand in solidarity for a moment?
01:18:41:04 - 01:18:41:17
Speaker 1
Go ahead.
01:18:41:21 - 01:18:55:25
CJ
I agree with you. I think this is a better age of college football. I love it and they love it, but for a different reason that because something real sinister about a guy who's applauding the fact that men of people are getting fired for the reasons.
01:18:55:27 - 01:19:00:22
Speaker 1
No, man, you know, like, you know, I'm not going to tell you. I'm going to tell you. I'm going to give you a real reason.
01:19:00:24 - 01:19:04:21
Big Al
Why I am a fan of what's going on right now with these college. You.
01:19:04:22 - 01:19:05:25
CJ
The first reason you gave me.
01:19:06:00 - 01:19:06:27
Speaker 1
I'm gonna tell you. I'm gonna tell.
01:19:06:27 - 01:19:08:25
CJ
You. Okay? Give me the rules. Okay?
01:19:08:27 - 01:19:16:22
Speaker 1
For at least for at least 40 or 50 years, college football.
01:19:16:22 - 01:19:17:24
Big Al
Coaches.
01:19:17:26 - 01:19:23:01
Speaker 1
Have held guys eligibility. Like it would, at.
01:19:23:06 - 01:19:26:25
Big Al
At it at, at knife point.
01:19:26:27 - 01:19:31:17
Speaker 1
If you don't do what I say to do, I'm going to ruin.
01:19:31:17 - 01:19:34:16
Big Al
Your career and you're out of here. Okay.
01:19:34:23 - 01:19:45:10
Speaker 1
And several talented players never got a chance to go other places because they were in their junior or senior year, and they were going to lose the opportunity.
01:19:45:12 - 01:19:46:25
Big Al
To go in transfer.
01:19:46:27 - 01:19:49:29
Speaker 1
That rule was taken away. Okay. That rule was taken.
01:19:49:29 - 01:19:55:14
Big Al
Away with, what you call this, nil or I should say.
01:19:55:16 - 01:20:06:13
Speaker 1
Transfer portal. So that was the first chip. That was the first chip to drop that made me feel like, okay, if a guy feels like he's not being used the right way, I'm going to transfer somewhere.
01:20:06:13 - 01:20:08:18
Big Al
Else so I can get use a different way.
01:20:08:25 - 01:20:14:19
Speaker 1
That was the first one where I started to say, okay, the players finally have a voice about.
01:20:14:22 - 01:20:15:02
Big Al
How.
01:20:15:02 - 01:20:37:16
Speaker 1
They will be used. The second part of this is that the coaches that we all thought that were fantastic, coaches that have underperformed and they underperformed greatly. They now have financial tools that are above board, and all they have to do is go out there and perform the way that they're supposed to do with the pay players that they have and give us a give us a result.
01:20:37:22 - 01:21:04:04
Speaker 1
If you can't get it done, get your ass out of there. So I do love the age that we're in first because of the players, first because of the players, okay. First because of the players have free freedom of movement. Secondly, the coaches that can't coach are shown the door. And maybe that there's a coach out there that has been doing well, that has not gotten a chance yet, will get elevated, and that it's not just on name recognition anymore.
01:21:04:09 - 01:21:06:01
Speaker 1
It's about what you do with.
01:21:06:01 - 01:21:07:02
Big Al
The talent that you have.
01:21:07:03 - 01:21:08:16
Speaker 1
So yes, I love to say.
01:21:08:17 - 01:21:20:27
CJ
Okay, well, you know, we stand in solidarity. As I said, my reason, I guess somewhat related, but not quite as complex, if you will, is is how you've explained your reasons.
01:21:20:27 - 01:21:28:18
Speaker 1
You okay with player movement? While we were playing, if player movement was available for when we were playing, there would have been at least 30 guys.
01:21:28:18 - 01:21:36:09
Big Al
That would have gone into the, the transfer portal that were not playing at the University of Colorado when we were playing for national championships.
01:21:36:09 - 01:22:01:27
CJ
Sure that that may have been the case, but here's the larger point. This notion of amateurism has been fool's gold for at least 40 years. Yes, we finally figured out, yes, that there was no such thing as amateurism. And so when nil came into play, the transfer portal came into play. It finally smashed. This false sort of, you know, image of football.
01:22:01:27 - 01:22:25:15
CJ
College football is about as an amateur sport. While all of the resources are pushed towards things other than the players themselves. Now here's all that's happened. This has been a redistribution of money. Remember back in the day, the conversation was all around facilities. It's an arms race. We need a bigger locker room. We need a bigger weight room.
01:22:25:15 - 01:22:58:03
CJ
We need to present. We need to spend all this money. And revenue on on facilities. That's how we recruit players, right? Here's the problem I've always had with. And I remember having a conversation with one of our athletic, department personnel, 35, probably 37 years ago. I didn't understand how you can go and recruit kids from across the country, many of whom were didn't come from the the best sort of social economic situation.
01:22:58:06 - 01:23:17:13
CJ
You bring them to your beautiful campus. Of course, there's an opportunity to get an education second to none in many cases, I think see you as an out. It's an amazing academic institution. You get that education and as over the years you see, you see salaries growing, right? Coaches, coaches, coaches, salaries in the.
01:23:17:20 - 01:23:18:26
Speaker 1
Administrative salaries.
01:23:18:26 - 01:23:20:09
CJ
Athletic directors.
01:23:20:12 - 01:23:22:10
Speaker 1
Bowl member salaries.
01:23:22:11 - 01:23:57:27
CJ
The money is going straight north for everyone. And yet the kid who looks up in the stands and sees many in the student section with his jersey on, there are a lot of number 94 jerseys in the stands up in Boulder back in the day. Number one, number three, there are a lot of in many cases, his own parent couldn't afford to come watch him play, could not sit in the same stands that everyone who was enjoying the patent story of college football could take advantage of, and have a great time.
01:23:57:29 - 01:24:19:25
CJ
If you didn't have the money, the resources, your family didn't have it too frickin bad. You couldn't do it. And it was an NCAA violation to assist the family whose kid is paramount or instrumental in the revenue that's being generated here. To share in that. And it all was sort of under this notion or this image of amateurism.
01:24:19:25 - 01:24:42:02
CJ
That's all they had to say. College athletics are amateur. The only amateurs were the players. Everyone else was extremely professional because they got paid like pros. And I think that no longer being the case is good for college football. The mere fact that we're going through this sort of rough period trying to figure it out, is because of the greed of the NCAA.
01:24:42:04 - 01:25:05:15
CJ
They should have gotten ahead of this 15 years ago and said, okay, we see the old model is broken, the jig is up. We can't pretend like this is amateur sports anymore. We must share the revenue and allow this thing to to be as it is so that we can avoid what might happen 15 years later when nil comes into play because of a court ruling.
01:25:05:16 - 01:25:23:20
CJ
When revenue share comes into play, because of a court ruling, you've lost control. NCAA to control the future of college athletics. Now we're in this rough patch that I believe in. In a year or two, we'll have we'll have it figured out. College sports is too important to all of us to not figure it out, but absolutely to the question.
01:25:23:20 - 01:25:33:17
CJ
College football is better off today than it was 25, 35 years ago because we're not playing under the false pretense that this is about amateurism anymore.
01:25:33:19 - 01:25:34:25
Speaker 1
The next hurdle.
01:25:34:27 - 01:26:11:15
Big Al
The next hurdle, man. And it's going to happen. And I'm telling you this right now, the next hurdle is player safety. In college football. There was a lawsuit, in the last 2 or 3 weeks that was settled where it held the college accountable for sustained injuries against the student athletes, against a student athlete. The question is, how far did this go?
01:26:11:17 - 01:26:41:28
Big Al
How far back will they take this ability to ask for damages for playing college athletics, whether it's soccer used in the head for concussions or football for that matter? And this is this is just like this is the beginning of something that's totally different. So all of the, all of the pomp and circumstance around college football, it's gone right now.
01:26:42:01 - 01:27:15:11
Big Al
What we have right now is a straight business model. It's looking more like the NFL. And with that, there are consequences for all of those, misjudgments that we'll use with the misjudgments of, let's just say, the coaching staff or the medical staff to push guys in position to go out there and play in situations where they've put themselves in harm's way more than they would have in any other situation if they had the same standards as, let's say, the NFL.
01:27:15:13 - 01:27:17:06
Big Al
Can't wait to see how these things happen.
01:27:17:08 - 01:27:20:11
CJ
Collective bargaining. I think that's the next get it all going on.
01:27:20:11 - 01:27:20:29
Speaker 1
Is this.
01:27:21:06 - 01:27:22:24
Big Al
The question is.
01:27:22:26 - 01:27:26:19
Speaker 1
How do you and we we we have we have a.
01:27:26:19 - 01:27:32:16
Big Al
Guy or two that played at the University of Colorado, has had substantial injuries.
01:27:33:05 - 01:27:34:06
CJ
Guy at two I mean.
01:27:34:06 - 01:27:36:07
Speaker 1
This that we, that we call friends.
01:27:36:12 - 01:27:38:12
Big Al
That we call for it. Absolutely.
01:27:38:14 - 01:27:42:19
Speaker 1
And there was no, no.
01:27:42:19 - 01:27:57:12
Big Al
Restitution for those student athletes. What happens how far do you go back to rectify some of those, some of those instances where guys were permanently hurt? I mean, what do you do?
01:27:57:19 - 01:27:57:28
CJ
Well, I.
01:27:57:28 - 01:27:59:23
Speaker 1
Think what I mean, what do you do with that.
01:27:59:24 - 01:28:00:12
Big Al
Situation?
01:28:00:12 - 01:28:28:13
CJ
I think that's all going to be captured in. We we're not there yet, but there will be collective bargaining to determine answers to the question that you ask. And I think ultimately that's going to be good for the sport, is going to be good for those who participate in the sport. And I think it just lends more truth to the reality, to the reality of the impact on the sport, on all of those who participate.
01:28:28:14 - 01:28:34:16
Speaker 1
Right. And there should be, you know, we have a you know, what can we we have a group.
01:28:34:16 - 01:28:43:29
Big Al
At the University of Colorado called the Buff Buffs for life. And what the organization does, I'm actually wearing, if you can see right here, I'm actually wearing.
01:28:44:02 - 01:28:49:02
CJ
One of the mic men move your hand. You're saying you're wearing it, but you're covering it up with your hand. Damn.
01:28:49:07 - 01:28:50:27
Big Al
Like a man here.
01:28:50:29 - 01:28:53:25
CJ
Is that now we get it. We get it.
01:28:53:28 - 01:28:57:01
Speaker 1
By the way, I know they do it on this side. So is that better.
01:28:57:04 - 01:28:57:27
CJ
Yet to get.
01:28:57:28 - 01:28:58:25
Speaker 1
Me stuff? Is that better?
01:28:59:01 - 01:29:00:20
CJ
There you go. Right you go.
01:29:00:22 - 01:29:04:19
Speaker 1
Why you can't. We have on YouTube like we have we have, organization.
01:29:04:19 - 01:29:09:14
Big Al
At the University of Colorado that was started by players for players.
01:29:09:17 - 01:29:10:08
Speaker 1
Who were put.
01:29:10:08 - 01:29:18:21
Big Al
In bad situations. That happens in life. And the organization was put together by players so.
01:29:18:21 - 01:29:18:29
Speaker 1
They could.
01:29:18:29 - 01:29:25:24
Big Al
Help guys get through rough patches. And the reason that the organization was started is because the.
01:29:25:24 - 01:29:33:10
Speaker 1
NCAA and the universities don't allow for the university or its athletic.
01:29:33:10 - 01:29:37:14
Big Al
Departments to contribute to former players.
01:29:37:16 - 01:29:50:03
Speaker 1
Health, safety or hardships. And because we started this, it gives us a chance to do something that we collectively believe in. And that's one for.
01:29:50:03 - 01:29:52:18
Big Al
All and all for one.
01:29:52:20 - 01:29:53:16
Speaker 1
There, I say that, but.
01:29:53:19 - 01:29:55:07
CJ
You, you nailed it, man.
01:29:55:09 - 01:30:04:20
Speaker 1
Okay. And so I'm I'm looking I'm looking forward to more of these organizations starting, going forward so that players have.
01:30:05:26 - 01:30:07:19
Big Al
Players have more support.
01:30:07:23 - 01:30:21:15
Speaker 1
Well, I think in college, college, you know, I think I think the misnomer is college players have no support after they're done playing. Right. And it could be permanent injuries. And there's nothing that.
01:30:21:28 - 01:30:24:22
Big Al
Supports them once they're done with their scholarship time.
01:30:24:22 - 01:30:46:09
CJ
Yeah. No recourse there. But I think that's the point. Hopefully we don't need organizations like bust for lives, for us, for life, which has been outstanding because that will be captured in whatever the collective bargaining agreement will be in the future that actually does the things that buffs for life's buffs, for life was forced to do. Right. Because that, that didn't, that wasn't in place.
01:30:46:09 - 01:30:50:08
CJ
I got I got to play before we get out of here, man, because I've had about enough of you to be honest.
01:30:50:10 - 01:30:51:02
Speaker 1
I'm ready to go home.
01:30:51:02 - 01:30:52:09
CJ
But I got to play this for you now.
01:30:52:09 - 01:30:53:22
Speaker 1
See what the hell time we start this.
01:30:53:22 - 01:30:57:16
CJ
See if you recognize this. You recognize this?
01:30:57:16 - 01:31:00:27
Big Al
Honestly, by.
01:31:00:29 - 01:31:08:29
CJ
You recognize that's all. Yes to. Okay, now, now this, this this comes into play in part.
01:31:09:01 - 01:31:11:27
Speaker 1
With what time do we start this damn podcast?
01:31:12:00 - 01:31:13:18
CJ
Yesterday it was late.
01:31:13:18 - 01:31:15:11
Speaker 1
Why are we still doing this podcast?
01:31:15:11 - 01:31:17:23
CJ
Because I have a question for you. I'm going to end it right here. Yeah.
01:31:17:23 - 01:31:18:06
Speaker 1
Lee.
01:31:18:06 - 01:31:25:07
CJ
Dude, what do you. Before I say anything, I want you to watch this, this, this this will be the greatest reward.
01:31:25:15 - 01:31:32:25
Speaker 1
For for any buffalo, I believe is singing that song. Singing that fight song.
01:31:32:27 - 01:31:42:26
CJ
As you can tell, just talking about the fight song. Brings back emotions.
01:31:42:28 - 01:31:52:10
CJ
Takes me back 20 years.
01:31:52:12 - 01:31:59:25
CJ
To a very special time in my life I will never forget.
01:31:59:28 - 01:32:29:02
CJ
To come together shoulder to shoulder with the band of brothers. To achieve great things on a football field. Now that's our former teammate, dear friend Chad Brown who was talking about and this is related to the conversation we were at just having. Have we lost because see you doesn't sing the fight song song anymore after victories.
01:32:29:04 - 01:32:37:07
CJ
It's been a long standing tradition at Colorado that after you win a game, you sing the fight song in the locker.
01:32:37:07 - 01:32:39:04
Speaker 1
Room, right, right, right.
01:32:39:09 - 01:33:02:21
CJ
That ended in the Primera and a number of people were upset about it. Now my question to you is and my thought is again, once we once we move to a different place in terms of how we view college athletics, a lot of the traditions went away. That's why I see you in Nebraska is no longer the rivalry that it was.
01:33:02:21 - 01:33:25:16
CJ
That's why you see, you know, Oregon and USC and Washington and UCLA in the Big Ten. I mean, all kinds of traditions have been jostled away because of how we view college football. Now, my question to you is that too large a.
01:33:25:18 - 01:33:32:20
CJ
A golf too did we go too far? Is that something you been above? Who sung that? Who sang that song? That?
01:33:32:22 - 01:33:33:10
Speaker 1
And we often.
01:33:33:10 - 01:33:43:23
CJ
Times after we sang it a lot. Because we want a lot. Are you disturbed a troubled by that being a casualty of the new college football era?
01:33:43:25 - 01:34:11:14
Big Al
I'm a fan of whatever works for the current situation. And I know for traditionalists that may not sound right, but whatever they need right now is what I'm into, you know, and so if they don't believe that this is what's necessary going forward and they have sound, advice on, on, on this topic, then I say, okay, that's what's happening.
01:34:11:16 - 01:34:40:11
Big Al
But in general, in general, I'd like to see it, but I don't need to if that means, consternation with the, with the program. I'm, I'm one of the guys that really believe that the University of Colorado and, teams that are outside of the perennial top 25 need to do whatever they can to get back into the top 25, and then maybe new traditions start.
01:34:40:14 - 01:35:08:12
Big Al
I hate I hate that I had to say that because there's nothing better than singing that fight song. There's no there. There are no memories greater than singing the fight song after a victory at the University of Colorado. And that's the only time that we would sing it. And, I remember being in locker rooms where we were playing for opportunities to go and play for, big eight championships, and then later on, national championships.
01:35:08:12 - 01:35:28:04
Big Al
And after winning a national championship and singing a song and having my, best friend, my teammate, tenacious McGee in a sleeping head down in tears because he couldn't finish a game and I'm hugging him while we singing it together. Yeah.
01:35:28:10 - 01:35:29:22
CJ
So great memories.
01:35:29:22 - 01:35:32:04
Big Al
Yeah. Great memories. But if that's not what.
01:35:32:04 - 01:35:33:18
Speaker 1
They need right now.
01:35:33:20 - 01:35:40:12
Big Al
I'm all for what's needed right now. And I know that does not sound right for a traditionalist.
01:35:40:15 - 01:35:41:28
CJ
You don't have to apologize for me.
01:35:41:28 - 01:35:42:11
Speaker 1
But I'm here.
01:35:42:11 - 01:35:44:04
CJ
To listen, man. You going to make the case?
01:35:44:04 - 01:35:45:11
Speaker 1
I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
01:35:45:16 - 01:35:58:16
Big Al
Listen, listen, listen, I wasn't I wasn't necessarily down for removing 60 plus players off the team after Prime's first year, but that's the new college football. And I just have to accept that's what it is.
01:35:58:16 - 01:36:00:00
CJ
Well, and here's the thing.
01:36:00:06 - 01:36:01:23
Speaker 1
We're not going to we're not going to sit.
01:36:01:23 - 01:36:08:15
Big Al
Here and we're not going to sit here and change the narrative because we don't like what was special to us.
01:36:08:17 - 01:36:28:24
CJ
I totally agree. And in a lot of ways, it's kind of like kind of feel like the old get off my lawn kind of guy. This is how it was, is how it always should be. The fact of the matter is, the fight song grew to mean something to me over time. Right when I got to Colorado, I had to learn to fight.
01:36:28:27 - 01:36:52:03
CJ
You have to learn. It meant nothing at first, right? But there was a chance. And this gets kind of related to the Juju Lewis, redshirt issue. You didn't give me the. No. I think people would be shocked at the number of people that's been number of players that's been in this program for three consecutive years. The low number that's of players that's been in this program for three consecutive years.
01:36:52:07 - 01:37:12:29
CJ
We're just in a new era, those old traditions that really define programs just no longer do, for better or for worse, they just no longer do not. There's not a kid in America who's going to look at the see buffs seeing a fight song with all the enthusiasm and fervor in the world and say, that's where I want to be.
01:37:12:29 - 01:37:23:07
CJ
The world has changed. Times have changed. And I think it's incumbent upon us old heads to learn to change with the times. And I think that's just the bottom line there.
01:37:23:07 - 01:37:26:04
Big Al
So we agree two times in one show.
01:37:26:04 - 01:37:26:26
CJ
How about that?
01:37:27:03 - 01:37:27:14
Big Al
All right.
01:37:27:15 - 01:37:43:11
CJ
Hey man I'll tell you one thing else we agree on. We had a time. A time was had at the border last week. The border married. I was off the chain. And we'll be back November 22nd, ahead of the Arizona State season finale. Right here at Folsom Field. Looking forward to that again.
01:37:43:11 - 01:37:46:27
Speaker 1
Where we are also on Friday, unveil the bill. McCartney.
01:37:46:29 - 01:37:47:24
CJ
How about that.
01:37:47:24 - 01:37:48:16
Big Al
Statue.
01:37:48:17 - 01:37:50:04
CJ
That's Friday. The what's that?
01:37:50:04 - 01:37:52:04
Speaker 1
The the Friday 21st Saturday.
01:37:52:05 - 01:37:56:17
CJ
Yes, the 21st. The bill. Okay. How about coach Mac, man.
01:37:56:21 - 01:37:57:16
Speaker 1
Coach Mac that.
01:37:57:16 - 01:38:17:18
CJ
Will go down the greatest football coach that I've ever played for and the greatest football coach. And see you history to be sure. Hey, that does it for the bill. And C.J. podcast. You can check us out right here on Guerrilla Sports. And of course, just Google or search Big Owl and C.J. podcast and get all the nonsense he's talking on every show that we've ever had.
01:38:17:19 - 01:38:25:27
CJ
Have a great day, everybody.
